Edwin Moses challenged the IOC’s strict amateurism rules, which prevented Olympic athletes from legally earning money or accepting endorsements. He helped develop the Athletes Trust Fund, allowing prize money and sponsorship income to be placed in managed accounts that athletes could access for living and training expenses.

In 1981, Moses presented the idea to IOC President Juan Antonio Samaranch, helping pave the way for the modernization of Olympic eligibility rules and the professional sponsorship system that supports athletes today. Happy Birthday Legend!!
