സഞ്ജു സാംസണെ ടീമിൽ നിന്ന് മാറ്റിനിർത്തേണ്ടി വന്നതായിരുന്നു തന്റെ ക്യാപ്റ്റൻസി കരിയറിലെ ഏറ്റവും കഠിനമായ തീരുമാനം എന്ന് സൂര്യകുമാർ യാദവ് വെളിപ്പെടുത്തി.
സഞ്ജുവിന്റെ ത്യാഗമനസ്സിനെയും കളിയിലുള്ള പ്രൊഫഷണലിസത്തെയും അദ്ദേഹം പ്രശംസിച്ചു.

എന്നാൽ ലോകകപ്പിന് തൊട്ടുമുമ്പ് ഫോം വീണ്ടും മങ്ങിയതോടെ ടീം കോമ്പിനേഷൻ മാറ്റാൻ മാനേജ്‌മെന്റ് തീരുമാനിച്ചു. അതോടെ സഞ്ജുവിന് നൽകിയ വാക്ക് സൂര്യകുമാറിന് ലംഘിക്കേണ്ടി വന്നു.

അപ്പോൾ അവൻ എന്നോട് ഒരൊറ്റ കാര്യമേ പറഞ്ഞുള്ളൂ:

'ഈ ടീമിന് ലോകകപ്പ് ജയിക്കാൻ എന്താണോ ശരിയെന്ന് തോന്നുന്നത്, അത് ഭായി ധൈര്യമായി ചെയ്യൂ. എപ്പോൾ ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ടാലും ഞാൻ കളിക്കാൻ തയ്യാറായിരിക്കും. ഞാൻ നാളെ മത്സരത്തിനിറങ്ങുന്നു എന്ന രീതിയിൽ തന്നെയായിരിക്കും എന്റെ പരിശീലനം.'
