Grand Welcome for Hills’ Daughter Sushmita Lepcha in Darjeeling.
Indian international footballer Sushmita Lepcha received a warm welcome in Darjeeling from football lovers and various local organizations. Women players from different academies and clubs, along with school teams, gathered to honor her. She was escorted by Darjeeling Police and the motor group Blazing Pistons Darjeeling.
A special interaction program was held at GDNS Hall, focusing on school-level football, women’s football development, and empowerment through sports. Coaches and enthusiasts stressed the importance of strengthening women’s football from the grassroots.
Born on March 19, 1996, in Kalimpong, Sushmita Lepcha plays as a defender for the Indian Women’s National Team and East Bengal Women’s Team (jersey no. 15). She began her journey at the local level and went on to represent several clubs before joining East Bengal.
She has represented India internationally and is part of the squad for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026. Her achievements include winning the Indian Women’s League 2024–25 and the Calcutta Women’s Football League.
