TIGERS ROAR: Bangladesh have out-batted, out-bowledand out-fielded Sri Lanka in the first ODI to win by 90 runs. While Tamim Iqbal's century set up their huge total of 324, the bowlers responded in fine fashion to skittle out the hosts for 234.

That's it then. Bangladesh should never have been here. Unfair to ask them to play the qualifiers after they humbled Pakistan, India and South Africa on the trot at home. Different formats, different countries alright, but we have seen enough to conclude that Bangladesh need a bigger slice of the cricketing recognition. They have sailed through without hiccups though, expectedly, and will now look to effect some upsets, if you still like to call Bangladeshi wins that. There's a break tomorrow. The warmups will go on as they are. Join us for that and then for the mega-showdown between India and New Zealand at Nagpur.

Shakib Al Hasan believes Bangladesh's new found
confidence after the 2015 World Cup will make them
favourites for the home series against Pakistan later
this month.
Bangladesh won three matches, including a famous
triumph over England, to secure a berth in the
knockout stages of a World Cup for the first time.
Although they have beaten Pakistan just once - at the
1999 World Cup - in 32 meetings, Shakib believes the
team's self-belief coupled with the home advantage
factor will make it hard for a revamped Pakistan side.
"I think we should be starting as favourites to win the
ODI series against Pakistan," Shakib affirmed. "I think
this is our best chance to win against Pakistan.
Everyone in the team believes so too. We have proved
that we can beat any team at home. If we play our best
cricket, we can do well against any side. We beat New
Zealand seven times, and they are the World Cup
runners-up."
Shakib's confidence stems from Bangladesh's record at
home, at least as far as One-Day Internationals are
concerned. They beat Zimbabwe 5-0 at home in
December 2014, swept New Zealand 3-0 in late 2013,
and enjoyed victories over India and Sri Lanka on
their way to the final of the at the Asia Cup at home in
2012.
However, Bangladesh had a poor run at home in
2014-15, when they lost 12 of 18 ODIs. They were
beaten 3-0 by Sri Lanka in February, while India got
the better of them by 2-0 margin in June. Although
they somewhat redeemed themselves with the win
over Zimbabwe in December, Bangladesh couldn't
improve on their No. 9 ranking in the ICC ODI charts.
Shakib insisted that while the World Cup showing was
a step in the right direction, it was equally important
for Bangladesh to move up in the ICC rankings. "It is a
very important year for us since it will be a 10-team
World Cup next time," said Shakib, who is currently in
India to play for Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL.

Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Virat Kohli
said the arrival of players like S Badrinath and
Darren Sammy will ease the pressure on the top
order and he mentioned that he as well as Chris
Gayle and AB de Villiers would be able to express
themselves better in Indian Premier League 2015.
Besides Badrinath and Sammy, Dinesh Karthik was
also bought at the auction, and the 26-year old
Kohli said the presence of experienced players has
given depth to their batting line-up.
"This season is pretty different for us because for
the last three or maybe four years myself, Chris
[Gayle] and AB [de Villiers] have played under a
lot of pressure because the batting revolved around
the three of us. If you look at the few other teams,
they have a lot of depth in their batting which
meant the guys could go and express themselves
and play freely that worked for them," Kohli said
after the team's jersey launch.
"We had to be cautious and at the same time look to
score runs which sort of put us under pressure at
times but this time around we have got Dinesh
Karthik, Darren Sammy, Badrinath and youngsters
like Mandeep Singh coming into the batting line-up.
It is a very strong batting unit this time and we
have got really good depth with great mixture of
Indian youngsters and great bowlers from around
the world and some good power-hitters," Kohli said.
RCB's skipper said he along with Gayle and de
Villiers will be able to bat without any inhibitions in
the 2015 season. "This season the three of us can
play the way we always wanted to play in T20
cricket. Like you see AB, playing the way he did in
the World Cup. I am sure he will be feeling the
same and he will be feeling relieved that he can
start playing (his shots) from ball one, two or
three. That is pretty exciting for us as a team."
While RCB have been runners-up twice, they
haven't been quite up to the mark in the previous
three seasons, failing to reach the knock-outs on all
three occasions. Kohli said they have a strong
enough team to clinch the Indian Premier League
trophy in 2015.
"We always aim to do well in the tournament. We
have played the finals twice, played the Champions
League finals once and it is time that we cross that
hurdle and we have a team which can cross the
hurdle. I am sure that the players we have retained
and bought in the auction, we can create a good
combination which gives us a good chance in the
tournament. If 11 players believe that we can win
then we will surely do well in the tournament," he
said.

Kolkata Knight Riders spinner Sunil Narine has
been cleared to play IPL this season following a
retest on his bowling action at Sri Ramachandra
University.
The BCCI's sub-committee dealing with such matters
gave the West Indian's bowling action the go-ahead
at the ICC-accredited centre in Chennai where
former India pacer Javagal Srinath oversaw the
whole proceedings on Thursday.
"I am happy that we will witness Sunil Narine in
action in the Pepsi IPL 8 , since he is now cleared
by the BCCI committee. We look forward to the
opening match between Kolkata Knight Riders and
Mumbai Indians on the 8th of April in Kolkata,
which promises to provide an exciting start to the
tournament," BCCI honorary secretary Anurag
Thakur told iplt20.com .
KKR had earlier threatened to pull out on the
Narine issue. The mystery spinner couldn't play the
Champions League final last year for the same
reason and was sorely missed in KKR's defeat by
Chennai Super Kings.
KKR chief executive Venky Mysore expressed his
joy on the outcome."It is a matter of genuine relief.
We are very thankful to the BCCI president,
secretary and other board officials for bringing the
matter reach the appropriate conclusion," Mysore
told ESPNcricinfo.
Narine was the second-highest wicket-taker last
season with 21 wickets in 16 matches and played a
big role in KKR's second title win.

Royal Challengers Bangalore is considered by many
as the devil-may-care team of the Indian Premier
League. Over the years, they have fielded star-
studded sides, and the kind of support that they get
wherever they go is unparalleled. However, this is
also the team that has disappointed the most. With
the kind of firepower in their batting department,
along with a bunch of quality bowlers, RCB should
have at least been a constant presence in the play-
offs.
However, the fact that they have made it past the
group stage only three times since the inception of
the Indian Premier League is proof that having big
names is not the sole recipe for success.
Inconsistency and complacency have been RCB's
bane in the last three years as they finished fifth,
fifth and seventh, and whether they have
addressed those issues remains to be seen.
Captain:
Virat Kohli has been with RCB since the first season
and took over the full-time leadership role in 2013.
Indian team's poster boy and a superstar in his
own right, Kohli will be keen to lead from the front
and improve his captaincy record during the eighth
edition of the IPL.
Coaches:
Former RCB captain Daniel Vettori took over as
chief coach of the side in 2014 and he will continue
to serve the team in the same capacity this year. He
has the support of bowling coach Allan Donald,
batting and fielding coach Trent Woodhill, as well
as the latest recruit to the coaching staff - Bharat
Arun - who has joined the team as assistant coach
for the current season.
Previous IPL standings:
2014: seventh, 2013: fifth, 2012: fifth, 2011:
runners-up, 2010: third, 2009: runners-up, 2008:
seventh

Squad: Virat Kohli (c), AB de Villers, Chris Gayle,
Mitchell Starc, Nic Maddinson, Varun Aaron,
Yuzvendra Singh Chahal, Rilee Rossouw, Vijay Zol,
Yogesh Takawale, Abu Nechim Ahmed, Harshal
Patel, Ashok Dinda, Sandeep Warrier, Manvinder
Bisla, Iqbal Abdullah, Dinesh Karthik, Subramaniam
Badrinath, Darren Sammy, Sean Abbott, Adam
Milne, David Wiese, Jalaj Saxena, Sarfaraz Naushad
Khan, Shishir Bhavane.

Ricky Ponting has said that his lack of
success as a batsman in Twenty20 cricket,
especially in the IPL, will have no bearing on
his new role as head coach of Mumbai
Indians.
"That's not hard at all. Although I was not a
very good T20 player, the best thing is that I
understand the game pretty well. I have been
around the game for a long time. The fact is I
was here in IPL 6, started the tournament,
did not play really well, so that was when I
actually went into a bit of coaching role when
I stepped down from playing and that turned
out to be pretty well," Ponting said ahead of
Mumbai Indians' departure to Kolkata for
Wednesday's IPL 2015 opener against
defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders.
Ponting's 10 innings in the IPL - four with
Knight Riders in 2008 and six with Mumbai
Indians in 2013 -fetched him just 91 runs. His
decision to drop himself after tallying 52 runs
in 2013 turned out to be the turning point for
Mumbai Indians. Ponting passed on the
captaincy mantle to Rohit Sharma and the
team went on to win their only IPL title.
Since then, Ponting has been keeping himself
at pace with the shortest version of the game.
He spent some time with Mumbai Indians in
an advisory capacity at the start of IPL 2014
before taking over as head coach ahead of
the 2015 player auction.
