🚨 Did Kevin Pietersen sacrifice his legendary Test career for the IPL? 🤔🏏
Former England captain Kevin Pietersen recently opened up on a podcast with Ranveer Allahbadia about the real reason his international journey ended prematurely. Pietersen revealed that his long-standing dispute with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) over his decision to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) ultimately cost him his international career. Back in 2009, he joined Royal Challengers Bengaluru, prioritizing the lucrative franchise league at a time when such a move was heavily frowned upon by the board.
"I made big sacrifices, I lost my career because of it," Pietersen confessed, explaining that his unapologetic stance was the primary reason the establishment turned against him. Having his England career finish at age 33 after 104 Test matches, the prolific batter believes he should have played 150 to 160 Tests and amassed up to 13,000 runs.
However, his bold move wasn't in vain. Pietersen's personal sacrifices ultimately paved the way for today's generation of English cricketers to freely balance international duties with global T20 leagues. Now living a peaceful life and recently appointed as a mentor for the Delhi Capitals, KP seems to have found his peace with the past.
What do you think—was the ECB too harsh on KP, or was he right to pioneer the IPL path for future players? Let us know your thoughts below! 👇
