A week after Indian Table Tennis players created Indian history by booking all four berths (Two male and two female) first time for Olympics, now the legendary Gymnast Dipa Karmakar, hailing from Tripura added another feather in Indian Gymnastics history.
At the Rio Test qualifier, she became the first and only Indian to qualify for Gymnastics event at any Olympics.

Yogeshwar Dutt has bagged a quota in the men's 65 kg freestyle category at ongoing Asian qualifying tournament here on Saturday.

In the first round, Yogeshwar overpowered Korea's Ju Song Kim 8-1 before defeating Xuan Dinh Nguyen of Vietnam by technical superiority in the quarter-finals. The Indian had opened up a huge 12-2 lead over his Vietnamese opponnet.

In the semi-final, Yogeshwar overcame Seungchul Lee of Korea 7-2. He thus bagged an Olympic spot as the top two wrestler is each category are being awarded Olympic quotas.

This is the second quota place that Indian wrestlers have bagged for the Rio Olympics to be held later this year. Narsingh Pancham Yadav had bagged a quota place in the men's 74kg freestlye division last year.

Another great achievement of Indians this year. For the first ever time Indian Table Tennis team of Men's and Women's both have qualified for the Top Division Group World Cup.

Riding high on their double Gold medal win at Commonwealth TT Championships, Indian Men's and Women's teams first time won the Gold medal at the 2nd division Table Tennis World Cup and qualified for the 8th World Cup at Halmstad, Sweden scheduled in May, 2018.

After their Group stages where Women's team remained undefeated while Men's team lost 0-3 to Nigeria, Men's team defeated Nigeria in the Quarterfinals, Egypt in the semifinals, and Brazil in the Final.

Women's team defeated Serbia in the Quarterfinals, Puerto Rico in the semifinals, and Luxembourg in the Final.

Since the start of Team Championships in 2004, that happens every two years, Indian teams have never qualified for the top division World Cup.

Kavita Raut became the fourth Indian to qualify for Marathon in Rio Olympics after winning Gold medal at 12th South Asian Games. The 30-year-old Raut easily clinched the marathon gold in 2 hours 38 minutes and 38 seconds to become the fourth Indian women to have qualified for Rio Games women’s marathon. The Rio Games women’s marathon qualification standard stands at 2:42:00.

O.P. Jaisha, Lalita Babbar and Sudha Singh have already qualified for women’s marathon in Rio Olympics.

Another Rio Olympics-bound Nitender Singh Rawat took the men’s marathon gold in 2:15:18 seconds in a close finish in a star-studded field. He won the race by being merely a second ahead of Indrajith Cooray of Sri Lanka who has also qualified for Rio Games.

Rawat's 2 hours 18 minutes 6 second effort at the Military Games in Korea in October was enough to fit the bill according to the new standards which has been revised to 2 hours and 19 minutes from the earlier 2 hours and 17 minutes.

Dipika Pallikal enters semi-finals in Toronto

Last year's runner-up Dipika Pallikal moved into the semi-finals of the Granite Open squash tournament after a convincing win over Egyptian Salma Hany Ibrahim in Toronto.

The 17th-ranked Indian and second seed defeated her 27th-ranked opponent 12-10, 11-2, 11-4 in the quarterfinals held on Wednesday.

She will play Nicolette Fernandes (GUY) in the semifinal.
