🎾 The Winning Triangle: Coach, Parent, & Player 🎾
For a junior player to succeed, the Coach, Parent, and Athlete must work as a team. When everyone knows their role, the player thrives!
Below is a quick guide on how we can best support our champions. 👇
The Coach’s Job
🛠️ THE COACH: The Technical Architect
The coach is the "Pilot" of the tennis journey. Their focus is:
✅ Technical Growth: Building strokes that last a lifetime.
✅ Strategy: Teaching the "chess match" on the court.
✅ Hard Truths: Providing honest, objective feedback on performance.
✅ Discipline: Setting the standard for work ethic.
Parent Tip: Trust the process. If the coach is working on a grip change, results might dip temporarily, but the long-term gain is huge! 📈
The Parent’s Job
❤️ THE PARENT: The Safe Harbor
The parent is the "Fuel" for the journey. Their focus is:
✅ Unconditional Love: Being the same person whether the child wins 6-0 or loses 0-6.
✅ Logistics: Managing nutrition, rest, and travel.
✅ Character: Teaching sportsmanship and resilience.
✅ The "Exit" Strategy: Providing a life outside of tennis so the child doesn't burn out.
Parent Tip: The best thing you can say after a match is "I love to watch you play." 🌟
The Golden Rules
🚫 3 Things to Avoid (To Keep Kids Happy!):
1️⃣ Sideline Coaching: Giving instructions during a match confuses the player and undermines the coach.
2️⃣ The "Car Ride Home" Lecture: Let the child bring up the match first. They need time to decompress.
3️⃣ Result Obsession: If we only celebrate wins, the player learns to fear losing. Celebrate effort instead!
The Conclusion
🤝 Success happens when:
The Parent Supports.
The Coach Teaches.
The Player Competes.
Let’s work together to make this the best season yet! 🏆
