Congratulations to Ajinkya Rahane on a remarkable international cricket career.
Indian cricket has witnessed many unforgettable performances, but Rahane’s leadership during the 2020–21 Border-Gavaskar Trophy will forever remain one of its greatest chapters.
After India were bowled out for 36 in Adelaide, Virat Kohli returned home and injuries continued to weaken the squad, the series appeared to be slipping away. Rahane responded not with noise, but with calmness, courage and complete trust in his players.
His magnificent 112 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground was more than a captain’s century. It was India’s answer to Adelaide—a performance that restored confidence, revived the campaign and made the team believe again.
What followed was extraordinary.
An inexperienced and injury-hit Indian side continued fighting, eventually breaching the Gabba and completing one of the greatest overseas series victories in cricket history.
Rahane showed that true leadership does not always have to be loud.
