By 1977 he was a student of the soon to be IOGKF founder. In 1979, he became the first Indian to pass the Japanese Instructor's course conducted by the Federation of All Japan Karate-do, which places him in the ranks of the few qualified instructors of non-Japanese origin.
Sensei Mistry was present in July 1979 for the formation of the IOGKF - it was actually Sensei Mistry that proposed the name IOGKF at this meeting. Sensei Misty was made the Chief Instructor of IOGKF India and remains the only country head in IOGKF to have been Chief of his country in the entire existance of our organization.
Sensei Mistry has graded a huge number of black belts, which include many women. Being the pioneer of Karate in India, most of the Karate instructors in Bombay today, have passed through his training at some stage. Since 1973, he has been associated with the training of Palar-Military and Military forces of India.
In August 2000, Sensei Mistry conducted a one Day Seminar, on the topic of Sanchin Kata, (breathing technique). This was the culmination of nearly two years of research study along with Dr. C. Vergheese and Dr. Doongaji at the K. E. M. Hospital, Bombay. This was the first time in India that such a seminar was conducted, and was attended by the major style heads and senior instructors from many karate styles. He has since gone on to publish his research in his incredible book, "Three battles, anatomy and physiology of Sanchin Kata".
Sensei Mistry has hosted various large scale IOGKF events in Japan, including a world Gasshuku. In 2022 he was asked to become an advisor to IOGKF International. In 2023 he was awarded the grade of 9th Dan in Goju-ryu.
Considered by many as the father of Karate in India, Sensei Mistry's knowledge, impressive stregth and humble character make him a true master of the art of Goju-ryu Karate-do.
