Injured hand. 15-over game. 113 runs. That’s Virat Kohli.

On 18 May 2016, Virat Kohli walked out against Kings XI Punjab with a split webbing on his left hand and nine stitches. The match was reduced to 15 overs because of rain — but that didn’t stop Kohli.

He smashed 113 off just 50 balls, including 12 fours and 8 sixes, to power RCB to a huge victory.

It was also his fourth century of the 2016 IPL season, a season in which Kohli finished with a staggering 973 runs.

The numbers were incredible. The injury made it even more remarkable.

At just 8 years old, Nishad Kumar’s life changed forever. An accident involving a farming machine cost him his right hand and forced him to face a future that looked completely different from the one he had imagined.

But Nishad chose not to let that moment define him.

He started training, started competing, and kept pushing himself higher — literally. His focus became simple: go as high as possible.

On August 29, 2021, at the Tokyo Paralympics, Nishad cleared 2.06 metres and won a silver medal for India. Three years later, at the Paris Paralympics, he stood on the podium again, winning another silver in the same event.

From an accident that changed his childhood to becoming a two-time Paralympic medallist, Nishad Kumar’s journey is a powerful reminder that setbacks can change your path, but they don’t have to decide your destination.

Sometimes life takes something away from you — just to show you how high you can rise. 🇮🇳
