Sir Geoffrey Boycott Says Harry Brook Has The Talent To Reach Lara And Tendulkar’s Level, But His Mindset Is Holding Him Back.

He Said : " He is simply not making the most of the extraordinary talent he possesses. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, having watched so many players over the years, I haven’t come across anyone with his level of natural talent in a very long time. His timing, strokeplay, height and reach are exceptional, but the way he thinks about his batting is a major concern.

If he continues playing in this manner, he can still enjoy a decent career. However, if he learns to make better decisions and uses his talent wisely, he has the potential to reach the same level as Lara and Tendulkar. That is an incredibly high standard, with very few players ever reaching that kind of stature, apart from perhaps Bradman."

He Further Said : " At the moment, though, he approaches one-day cricket as if every delivery has to be attacked. He doesn’t seem willing to assess the ball before playing his shot and often ends up giving away his wicket by hitting straight to mid-off or mid-on.

He Added : " His uncle approached me last year and asked if I could speak to him. I told him exactly what I thought, that his ability was extremely rare and special. He then asked me to have a word with him.

I said I couldn’t simply approach him myself, as he might not appreciate it. But I told him that if the player ever came to me for advice, I would gladly help. I even gave him my number, but I never heard from him."

He Said : " I’ve seen the squad they’ve picked, and I’ve played a lot of cricket with Shreyas. I know he’s a quality player, a good person and also a capable captain. So I never questioned why he was made captain. But yes, I was definitely disappointed.

You haven’t lost a series for two years, you’ve won the World Cup and the Asia Cup, and naturally, you want that success to continue. When everything is going so well, I kept wondering why there was a need for a change and what the reason behind it was."

He Further Said : " I kept thinking, ‘How can this happen? How is this even possible?’ We had just won the World Cup. The IPL didn’t go as well as I had hoped, and I was at home.
