Today, the Hon’ble President of the Assam Olympic Association, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, announced at a press conference that the Assam Olympic Association will institute the “Arjuna Bhogeswar Barua National Sports Award.” This award will be conferred on the 3rd of September, the birth anniversary of Bhogeswar Barua, in three categories: (1) Sportsperson of the Year, (2) Lifetime Achievement Award in Sports, and (3) Best Emerging Sports Talent of the Year.

For the selection of this national-level award, the Assam Olympic Association has today constituted a jury comprising Assam Government Sports Secretary Kausar Jamil Hilaly, Arjuna awardee Manalisha Bora, and former captain of the Indian Volleyball team, Abhijit Bhattacharya, as announced by President Sonowal at the press conference.

The three awards will carry cash prizes of ₹5 lakh, ₹3 lakh, and ₹2 lakh respectively, along with a citation certificate.

India’s “Queen of Track and Field” and President of the Indian Olympic Association, Khel Ratna P.T. Usha, was felicitated today at a special event organized by the Dibrugarh District Sports Association. The felicitation was done in the presence of the President of the Assam Olympic Association, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal.

During this event, various sports divisions of Dibrugarh district and member clubs of the District Sports Association paid tribute through a March Past.
