A loss in the finals!

OCS played against Invictus XI in the finals of Oye Cricket Monsoon T-20 Cup. They won the toss and chose to field first. They had a great job in restricting the opponents to 76/5 in 10 Overs, however some missed catches and errors on the field, led to the opponents giving a target of 200 in 20 Overs to chase. Gaurav was the pick of the bowlers as he picked 2 wkts in his quota of 4 Overs conceding 28 runs.
OCS got off to a poor start as they lost two quick wickets and were 8/2 in 3 Overs. Joginder and Sathya tried to steady the ship by putting together a brisk partnership of 65 runs in 7 overs. This was followed by back to back dismissals of both of them and none of the other batsmen could really get into the chase as OCS could only manage 102 runs.
Shout out to Joginder for his incredible batting display in the entire tournament, which saw him amass 334 runs in 6 innings at an average of 83.5 and a SR of 165. He walked away with both Batsman and Man of the Series awards!

A fantastic final win!

Date – January 10, 2021

Tournament – Oye Cup, Season 16, 2020.

Venue – MMAH, Gurgaon

Opponents – Ashes Cricket Club

Result – OCS won by 6 wickets

OCS lost the toss and were asked to bowl first in the tournament finals. OCS began on a bright note with their opening bowlers, Balbir and A***n, bowling some brilliant line and length and A***n picking up 2 wickets to send Ashes Cricket Club (ACC) on the backfoot. This was followed up by the other bowlers Virender, Benny and Gaurav, who all bowled impeccably and picked up wickets at regular intervals. This was well supported by some excellent fielding and sharp catches being held and no dropped chances given to ACC. Virender and Benny finished with 2 wickets each, while Gaurav picked up 4 wickets and conceded only 15 runs in his spell of 4 overs. This fantastic bowling and fielding performance by the team helped OCS to bundle out ACC for 111 runs, giving themselves a fantastic chance of claiming the victory in this all-important final of the tournament.

OCS couldn’t get a good start in their innings as they lost their first 2 wickets, Nikhil and Virender, early mainly due to some brilliant bowling by ACC, who weren’t ready to give up in this match despite their low total. Their opening bowlers swung the ball both ways and made life difficult to OCS batsmen. Sathya and Anirban decided to dig in and see out this wave of brilliant bowling and almost succeeded before Sathya was dismissed with the score at 33/3 in 7.4 overs. OCS needed a partnership and they got that from the incoming Niladri and Anirban, who showed matured heads and kept rotating the strike and kept ticking the scoreboard. They latched onto the loose deliveries and ensured the Required Run Rate didn’t creep up. This was brought to a halt with the dismissal of Niladri with the score at 78/4 in 13 overs, but Sahil walked in with a purpose and began counter attacking ACC with the first ball he faced and scored some powerful hits. Anirban, at the other end, was already set and put on a show of some exquisite batsmanship with some super boundaries. Both took OCS home with 2 overs to spare and helped the team register a fantastic win in the final match of this tournament.

OCS also bid adieu to Anirban Majumdar, who played his last game for the team, and what better way to end his spell with a Man of the Match winning knock in the Finals of the tournament, staying right till the end, taking the team through to victory!

A bright start to a new tournament!

Date – December 8, 2019
Tournament – Tremendous 25 Dubai Cup, 2019
Venue – Moonshine, Gurgaon
Opponents – Invictus XI
Result – OCS won by 6 wickets

OCS lost the toss and were asked to bowl first in their 1st match of the tournament. OCS began on a bright note with their opening bowlers, Balbir, Virender and Mohit keeping things quiet and got an early breakthrough from Balbir as well. Invictus XI had to stich together a partnership by rotating the strike as there were very few loose deliveries bowled by OCS bowlers. Sathya of OCS broke the partnership in the 12th over with the score at 67/2. This started a series of frequent wickets taken by OCS bowlers as Benny, Sahil and Virender picked up a wicket each. Invictus XI had one set batsman who was going strong and was striking the ball very well to boundaries and maximums. Just as he was threatening to take the score beyond OCS’s reach, Joginder of OCS, produced a brilliant display behind the stumps and caught the batsman outside the crease. Invictus XI had reached 173/6 in the 23rd over and soon finished at 190/9 in their allotted 25 overs.

OCS began on a positive note with Virender Negi striking the ball well and scoring frequent boundaries and maximums. OCS lost Sahil in the 4th over and was replaced by Virender Shokeen but the carnage continued at the other end. OCS had reached 62 in 8 overs when Virender Shokeen was dismissed and was replaced by Joginder. OCS continued scoring runs freely with Virender Negi reaching his half century and Joginder rotating the strike well. Virender Negi was finally dismissed for 57 off 40 balls with the score at 103/3 in the 13th over. OCS soon lost Joginder and Siddhartha quickly and needed a strong partnership with the score at 116/5 in 16 overs. They needed 75 off the last 54 balls, and that is when Mohit and Sathya showed their maturity in building the innings and chasing down the score with frequent singles and doubles. And they punished the loose deliveries to boundaries and maximums. Mohit and Sathya took OCS to victory with 2 overs left in the innings and remained unbeaten on 39 off 27 and 34 off 21 respectively.

Man of the Match – Virender Negi

Best Batsmen – Mohit Mahajan

Best Bowler – Balbir Negi

Best Fielder – Virender Negi

“A fantastic start to the tournament. We played with the right mindset and got a good start both with the bat and the ball. And a good a finish as well. Let’s keep this going."

An emotional match for the team!

Date – September 22, 2019
Tournament – 15 Mohan Cricket Cup, 2019
Venue – Mohan Cricket Ground, Gurgaon
Opponents – RJ XI
Result – OCS lost by 37 runs

OCS lost the toss and were asked to bowl first in their 1st match of the tournament. It was a special match as one of their most tenured and key players, Abhishek, was playing his last game for OCS as he was moving out of the city. He began brilliant as always, by picking up a wicket in the first over of the innings. OCS continued putting RJ XI under pressure as Balbir picked up another wicket in the 4th over with the score at 27/2. RJ XI started rebuilding as their batsmen played sensibly and yet aggressively and put on a partnership. This was broken by Gaurav of OCS in the 13th over, with the score at 100/3, a breakthrough which OCS badly needed. RJ XI batsmen put on another decent partnership before Balbir and Ronnie of OCS put on a brilliant show of death bowling. Balbir picked up 3 wickets in his 2nd spell and was ably supported by Ronnie at the other end, who picked up a wicket of his own and didn’t let the momentum shift. RJ XI finished with 163/7 in their quota of 20 overs.

OCS began with a sweet gesture of asking Abhishek, playing his farewell match, to open with Niladri and it proved to be a good decision as Abhishek gave them a brisk start with a couple of boundaries and a maximum. He was dismissed in the third over with the score at 18/1 and was met with a stand ovation from his team members. Niladri and Mohit put together a stable stand for OCS y rotating the strike and putting away bad balls. This partnership was broken in the 7th over with the score at 47/2 when Mohit was dismissed. He was replaced by Joginder, who tried to up the ante and was caught in the deep with the score at 58/3 in the 9th over. OCS soon lost Sathya, as he tried to go big to catch up on the required run rate. This was soon followed by the dismissal of the set batsman Niladri and almost immediately Bhavya as well, with the score at 71/6 in the 12th over. With Required Run Rate of more than 10RPO, Virender and Sahil tried to accelerate by scoring a few boundaries and maximums but were halted by some brilliant wicket to wicket bowling of RJ XI, resulting in their dismissals and the score at 94/8 in the 14th over. OCS then lost Benny in the next over and asked their pair, Balbir and Ronnie to bat till the end and take them as close to the target as possible to avoid a big impact on the NRR. Both the batsmen played well and scored maximums, boundaries and a lot of singles and took the score to 126/9 when Ronnie was dismissed in the last over.

Man of the Match – Balbir Negi
Best Batsmen – Balbir Negi
Best Bowler – Abhishek Kumar Gupta
Best Fielder – Joginder Shokeen

“Should have played a bit more aggressively while chasing this score, nobody really approached it like a 160+ target, we played it like a 130-odd target. Need to work on this."

A heart-wrenching final loss!

Date – September 15, 2019
Tournament – 5th F.S Cup, 2019
Venue – Sports Maidan, Gurgaon
Opponents – Cricketers United
Result – OCS lost by 3 runs

OCS lost the toss and were asked to field first on a cloudy afternoon. Cricketers United began on a fantastic note as their openers took the attack to the OCS bowlers and scored boundaries at will. They were aided by some ordinary bowling and fielding as OCs failed to capitalize on the chances in the form of catches and runouts. Abhishek got the first breakthrough for OCS in the 7th over with a good catch to Virender at the deep and the score at 60/1. Cricketers United continued their hitting spree and were stopped abruptly by Sahil as he picked up 2 wickets in 2 balls with the score at 106/2 in the 13th over. Benny and Sahil did well to restrict Cricketers United to 130/3 in 16 overs and Balli picked up 2 wickets in 2 balls in the 17th over to inflict further damage. Some fine hitting at the end resulted in Cricketers United reaching 167/6 in 20 overs putting up a formidable score.

OCS sent in their openers for the tournament, Bhavya and Virender, got off to a bad start as Bhavya was dismissed in the 1st over itself and was replaced by Mohit. Virender, on the other hand, seemed to be playing at a different level altogether as he smashed the bowlers all round the park. This was one of the most relentless innings ever played as he plummeted maximum after maximum irrespective of the different bowling options used by Cricketers United. He was aided well by Mohit who kept rotating the strike, whenever he got the chance. This partnership was broken as Mohit was caught with the score at 66/2 in 5.4 overs and was replaced by Siddhartha. Nothing changed for OCs and Virender, as he continued smashing all round the park and the aiding role was taken up by Siddhartha very well. OCs lost their wicket in the 12th over, with the score at 128/3. Virender was joined at the crease by Joginder and they were gliding along smoothly as OCS needed 27 off the last 36 balls. This is when catastrophe struck and Joginder got run out in an unfortunate way and Cricketers United suddenly found their morale and voice. Niladri went on to support Virender, who reached his 9th century for OCS, however Niladri found it difficult to rotate the strike. Cricketers United sensed the tide shifting and took full advantage of it and bowled and fielded brilliantly as the number of dot balls kept increasing. With 22 needed of the last 24 balls, Niladri was dismissed and was replaced by Sathya. But with belief getting stronger in Cricketers United, their fielding effort also became brilliant as they cut off singles and dismissed Sathya to a full stretch diving catch at mid-wicket. With 15 needed off the last 12 balls, Sahil of OCS was dismissed as he tried to smash one out of the park. Virender and Balli were facing the action as OCS needed 13 off the last 6 balls, but Virender’s super human innings came to an end as he was dismissed off the first ball of the last over as he tried to add another maximum to his tally, but the ball kept low and crashed into the stumps. Abhishek of OCS smashed a boundary off the first ball he faced and after a couple of doubles, OCS brought it down to 5 off the last ball but could only manage a single and ended up losing by a mere 3 runs.
Virender’s mammoth innings of 107 off 57 balls included 10 sixes and 6 boundaries but ended in vain as none of the other batsmen could support him and guide the team through to what could have been perhaps the most memorable final for OCS.

Man of the Match – Virender Shokeen
Best Batsmen – Virender Shokeen
Best Bowler – Sahil Khan
Best Fielder – Virender Shokeen

“Very proud of the effort we put in to reach the finals. With that being said, we should have supported Virender, who stepped up his game for finals and should have closed the game with him. Lots to learn for the others in the team and we will surely apply this learning."

A win in the finals!
Date – April 7, 2019

Tournament – Wolfer Major League Silver Cup

Venue – WCG, Gurgaon

Opponents – Rising XI

Result – OCS won by 4 wickets

OCS were asked to bowl first in the all important finals and began brilliantly as their opening bowlers Abhishek and Utkrisht picked up a wicket each in their first over to push Rising XI back to 2/2 in the 2nd over. Rising XI then began rebuilding their innings with a strong partnership, however that was broken in the 10th over, when Benny of OCS broke the partnership with the score at 82/3. This was followed by another wicket taken by Joginder, who dismissed the other set batsman with the score at 111/4 in the 13th over. Rising XI then accelerated the innings in a brilliant knock as he scored 52 off just 14 balls, but was finally dismissed by Gaurav, much to the relief of OCS. Some quick runs at the end helped Rising XI reach 211/8 despite a couple of wickets taken by Gaurav for OCS.

Scoring 10 runs in an over is never easy, let alone in the finals but OCS began on the front foot as Bhavya and Virender started scoring boundaries and maximums brilliantly. Bhavya was soon dismissed with the score at 24/1 in the 3rd over and was replaced by Sahil, but Virender continued his brilliant scoring spree and kept scoring more than 10 runs in an over. Sahil was the next one to be dismissed and was soon followed by the dismissal of Siddhartha as well. With the score at 84/3 in the 9th over, Virender and Joginder (the Shokeen brothers) took upon themselves to resurrect the innings and not let go of the momentum. They did this brilliantly with some well-placed boundaries, huge maximums and frequent singles and doubles. OCS got the next jolt with the dismissal of Joginder, who made a brilliant 23 ball 36 in the 15th over with the score at 150/4. Sathya and Virender then tried to carry on from there, however Virender was the next one to be dismissed, caught in the deep after a smashing innings of 40 ball 84 runs and the score at 162/5 in 16 overs. With 52 required off the last 24 balls, Sathya and Shree had a task in hand to finish off the innings and they began well with Sathya scoring a maximum and a couple of boundaries and Shree hitting a maximum as well. Shree was dismissed the next ball as he tried to clear the long on and OCS needed 24 runs off 12 balls. This is when a certain Balbir came to the party. He smashed a flat six off the first ball he faced and after some quick singles and doubles, the equation came down to 12 off 6 balls. Balbir smashed a boundary off the first ball and brought down the equation to 8 runs off 5 balls. And finally OCS were left with 3 runs off 2 balls, and Balbir played a fine flick to score 2 runs off the penultimate ball, leaving just a single run off the last ball required for OCS to lift the cup. He did it brilliantly by playing the fine flick again and OCS completed the ominous run chase ever so brilliantly.

Man of the Match – Virender Shokeen

Best Batsman – Joginder Shokeen

Best Bowler – Gaurav Jaitley

Best Fielder – Joginder Shokeen

“This is what we had playing and preparing ourselves for. An immaculate run chase with superb intensity, belief and bonding. Everybody pitched in and gave their 150% to the team’s winning cause. Need more of such performances and with this level of intensity, togetherness and belief, anything is possible."

Opponents – RCC Wolf

Result – OCS lost by 39 runs

OCS won the toss and decided to field first. They were without their key players, Virender and Joginder, and knew they had to restrict the opposition to a minimum score. They got off to a decent start as a breakthrough was provided by Balbir in the 4th over, followed by another wicket for him in the 6th over with the score at 43/2. RCC Wolf then put together a brilliant partnership of 57 runs and OCs finally got a breakthrough in the 12th over when Anirban uprooted the stumps of the set batsman, followed by another wicket for him in the 14th over, with the score at 123/4. RCC Wolf played well and kept scoring boundaries and singles, and even though OCs bowlers, Shree and Bala, picked up 2 wickets each, RCC Wolf still managed to get 169 runs, when OCS bundled then out in the 20th over.

OCS began in the worst possible manner as they lost 2 quick wickets in 2 overs and were 5/2. Things became worse when Patrick of RCC Wolf picked up 3 wickets in an over and OCS were staring down the barrel at 29/6 in the 8th over. Sathya and Shree, then put together a partnership of 28 runs before, Shree was dismissed to a well bowled Yorker. This was followed by another decent partnership of 18 runs with Gaurav, before he was dismissed in a similar fashion with the score at 75/8 in the 15th over. Sathya then decided to go all in and smashed a few maximums and boundaries to try and as close to the target as possible to avoid a huge impact on NRR. He was finally dismissed in the 20th over after scoring 77 runs off 50 balls with 9 boundaries and 4 maximums. OCS then finished their innings at 130/9 in 20 overs and lost by 39 runs.

Best Batsmen – Sathya Ram

Best Bowler – Balbir Negi

Tournament – Rising Invitation Cup Edition -4, 2018
Venue – Drona Sports Village, Gurgaon
Opponents – Spartan XI
Result – OCS won by 68 runs

OCS played against Spartan XI in their last league game and needed a win to progress to the semifinals. OCS won the toss and chose to bat first on a dry and low wicket. They lost early wickets with the departure of Sid and Bhavya and were 19/2 in 1.5 overs and needed a partnership from Virender and Sathya. They put on 50 runs before Virender was adjudged LBW in the 10th over. They needed to rebuild again and Sathya and Mohit played sensibly by taking the score to 104 in the 15th over when Sathya was dismissed to a Jonty-esque run out. OCS needed a strong finish and were set up brilliantly, however due to the low bounce on the wicket, could only manage 140/7 in 20 overs.

OCS got off to the best possible start with Gaurav picking up a wicket in the very first ball of the innings, followed by another wicket by Abhishek in the 2nd over. OCS opening bowlers were spot on and kept things quiet and kept picking up wickets at regular intervals as well. Abhishek, from one end, was brilliant as he gave away only 3 runs in his spell, picked up 2 wickets and bowled a maiden as well. Spartan XI were reeling at 33/5 in the 9th over as Joginder also joined the party and picked up wickets at will. They needed a partnership and they briefly got one for the 6th wicket for 21 runs, however that was broken by Joginder again and in the end, OCS bowlers, Shree and Arun, pitched in with a wicket each and bundled out Spartan XI for 72 runs in the 16th over.

Opponents – Monarch (Mokshsports)
Result – OCS won by 5 wickets

OCS won the toss and elected to bowl first and got off to a good start as their opening bowlers, Gaurav and Abhishek, kept things quiet by not bowling loose deliveries. Gaurav picked up a couple of wickets in his first spell and was ably supported by Abhishek, who bowled a maiden as well. Monarch were 19/2 in the 5th over and put together a partnership which included some boundaries and a couple of maximums as well. Vikram of OCS broke the partnership and picked up another wicket quickly to leave Monarch reeling at 79/4 in the 13th over. This was followed by a magic spell by Joginder as he picked up 5 wickets and didn’t allow the Monarch innings to rebuild and bundled them out for 124 runs.

OCS began brilliantly as Anirban and Niladri, waited for the loose deliveries to punish them for boundaries and maximums and kept rotating the strike very well. After a good start, they lost Anirban with the score at 44 runs, however Niladri and Virender continued scoring runs freely till the 10th over when they lost 3 quick wickets with 70 runs on the board. A sense of calm was provided by Mohit and Sathya, who steered the innings brilliantly as they kept the scoreboard ticking and had reached 114 in the 18th over when Sathya was dismissed. A dominating performance!

OCS played against Phoenix CC in the Quarter Finals of 4th Oye Mix Corporate Tournament and were asked to bowl first after losing the toss. They started on a bright note with Abhishek running through the top order and was ably supported by Ronnie at the other end, who kept things really tight. Phoenix CC were struggling at 44/3 in 6 overs and had to play cautiously to build a partnership. The bowling partnership of OCS continued this time with Joginder and Gaurav. Joginder with his orthodox leg spinners, kept plucking wickets at will with some genuine leg spinner dismissals and Gaurav kept things quiet at the other end by not bowling loose deliveries. This made it difficult for Phoenix CC to score runs quickly and soon they were staring down the barrel at 104/7 in 15 overs. Shree of OCS then came back into the attack and finished off the innings by picking up 3 wickets in the same over and running through the tail. OCS had a target of 110 runs to chase with a spot in the semifinals up for grabs.

OCS began on a steady note as their openers, Sathya and Mohit, waited for the loose deliveries to score boundaries and kept the scoreboard ticking. This ensured that there were no early innings jitters, however they lost their first wicket in the 5th over when Sathya mistimed a shot straight to the fielder with the score at 25/1. This was soon followed by the run out of Mohit in the next over with the score at 32/2. OCS needed a partnership to steady things and Virender and Siddhartha put together a brisk partnership with Virender scoring maximums and Siddhartha waiting for loose deliveries to score boundaries. It ended abruptly when Virender was adjudged LBW at 60/3 in the 9th over and was replaced by Bhavya. Siddhartha was the next one to be dismissed as a poor judgment in running cost him his wicket. Bhavya soon began his game of scoring maximums, however was caught with the score at 81/5 in the 11th over. Niladri and Sahil had the onus to carry OCS to victory, but Niladri was soon dismissed, caught in the deep at 86/6 in the 12th over. Joginder and Sahil played sensibly till the end and chased down the score in the 16th over to seal the victory and a spot in the semifinals.

Man of the Match – Joginder Shokeen

Best Batsman – Sahil

Best Bowler – Sriram Sridhar

Best Fielder – Gaurav Jaitley

“A fantastic and much needed win to progress in the tournament. Our bowling was the difference, we had bowling partnerships which worked beautifully for us."
