The Indian Academy of Shooting Sport "You will be an Olympian..." Shooting is an important Olympic sport in India. There were a total of 11 shooters including 4 female shooters.

Of India's 26 Olympic medals, 4 have come from Shooting including a Gold by Abhinav Bindra in the 2008 Olympics. Indian shooters who have excelled at the world stage include Abhinav Bindra, Jitu Rai, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, Vijay Kumar, Gagan Narang, Apurvi Chandela, Ronjan Sodhi and Anjali Bhagwat.


2012 Olympics
The Indian shooting contingent for the 2012 London was one of the largest to da

te. India's first medal in the 2012 Olympics was when Gagan Narang won the bronze in the 10m Air Rifle event. This was the same event in which Abhinav Bindra won India's first individual gold medal in the 2008 Summer Olympics Beijing. The second medal came from the unheralded army man Vijay Kumar when he won the silver in the 25m rapid fire pistol event after finishing 4th in the qualification rounds. He had to fend off some tough competition from the third placed Chinese Ding Feng. A notable performance was made by Joydeep Karmakar who finished 4th in the 50m rifle prone event. A strong medal prospect Ronjan Sodhi who is an Asian Games gold medallist, however crashed out in the qualification rounds of the Double trap event. Olympic Medals

Andhra Pradesh 13 years young shooter Master Mukesh Nelavalli (Blue shirt) finished 3rd Place in Juniors category and 4th place in Youth category of 2nd India shooting team selection trails held at Dr. Karnisingh Shooting Range New Delhi. The Indian Academy of Shooting Sport shooter Mukesh also selected for "Khelo India" Youth games Jan 2019. We wish him all the best for bright feature.

16 shooters named for TOPS support.

A list of 16 shooters got the nod for government support through the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) after a meeting of the Mission Olympic Cell of the Sports Authority of India (SAI).

The TOPS offers a monthly financial support of Rs 50,000 to the selected athletes.

“The performance of potential athletes was reviewed in the context of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. It was also decided to extend support towards a specific developmental group for the 2024 Olympics,” a Sports Authority of India (SAI) release said.

However, two of the leading shooters — Heena Sidhu and Jitu Rai — were kept in the pending list as the committee wanted to gauge their performance during the World Cup in New Delhi next February which would offer Olympic quota places.

Apart from the 16, Hriday Hazarika (Men’s 10m Air Rifle), Divyansh Panwar (Men’s 10m Air Rifle), Shreya Agrawal (Women’s 10m Air Rifle), Aishwarya Pratap Tomar (Men’s 50m Rifle Three Positions), Esha Singh (Women’s 10m Air Pistol) and Manisha Keer (Women’s Trap) have been taken in the developmental group for the 2024 Olympics.
