CEC Congratulates Team Ladakh for Exceptional Performance at the 4th National Winter Curling Championship

Leh,January 22, 2025: Team Ladakh has delivered an exceptional performance at the 4th National Winter Curling Championship, which concluded in Gulmarg on January 21, 2025. The competition, organized by the Curling Federation of India and the JK Curling Association, saw fierce participation from 18 states.

Ladakh’s contingent, consisting of 13 players and a manager, has brought home three prestigious medals: a Gold in the Senior Curling Championship, a Bronze in the Senior Girls category, and a Silver in the Mixed Doubles event. The Gold medal was secured by Sadiq Ali, Mansoor Ali, Syed Shamsuddin, and Ahsaan Ali in the Senior Curling Championship, while Rigzin Dolkar, Nazira Banoo, Deachen Dolkar, and Stanzin Chotso clinched the Bronze in the Senior Girls category. In the Mixed Doubles event, Mohd Yaseen and Skarma Saldan earned the Silver medal.

Hon’ble Chairman/CEC Adv. Tashi Gyalson expressed his pride at the accomplishments of Team Ladakh, stating, “I extend my warm congratulations to the athletes and the team for their remarkable achievements at the 4th National Winter Curling Championship. Their hard work and commitment to excellence have brought immense pride to Ladakh.”

Team Ladakh Wins Gold, Silver, and Bronze at 4th National Winter Curling Championship

Gulmarg, Jammu & Kashmir, January 21, 2025 – Team Ladakh has achieved remarkable success at the conclusion of the 4th National Winter Curling Championship, held in Gulmarg from January 17-21, 2025. Organised by the Curling Federation of India and the JK Curling Association, the championship witnessed fierce competition from 18 participating states.

Ladakh's contingent, comprising 13 players and a manager, demonstrated exceptional skill and determination, securing a coveted Gold medal in the Senior Curling Championship, a Bronze medal in the Senior Girls category, and a Silver medal in the Mixed Doubles event.

Medal Highlights:

Gold in Senior Curling Championship: Sadiq Ali, Mansoor Ali, Syed Shamsuddin, Ahsaan Ali

Bronze in Senior Girls:Rigzin Dolkar, Nazira Banoo, Deachen Dolkar, Stanzin Chotso

Silver in Mixed Doubles:Mohd Yaseen, Skarma Saldan

Ali Asgar, President of the Ladakh Curling Association, expressed sincere gratitude to the UT Administration, particularly Secretary of Sports Shri. Vikram Malik IAS, Joint Director YSSO Shri. Tahir Hussain Zabdavi and Shri. Abid Ali, DYSSO, for their unwavering support in fostering the growth of curling in the region.

The championship featured a diverse range of competitions, including Senior Men Curling, Senior Women Curling, Mixed Games, and Mixed Doubles. Team Ladakh's impressive performance in the national curling competition underscores the growing popularity of this Olympic sport in the region, a testament to the players' and their management's unwavering commitment.

- Visit by SAI and CFI for Winter Games Preparation

The Sports Authority of India (SAI) and the Curling Federation of India (CFI) undertook a significant visit to Ladakh with the purpose of organizing the Winter Games under the Khelo India initiative. The primary focus of their visit was to explore and harness Ladakh's immense potential for hosting a variety of winter sports, particularly curling.
The visit was encouraged by the significant support from the Union Territory Administration of Ladakh and the Secretary of Sports, acknowledging the ample scope for winter sports development in the region.
