In our previous post we talked about eating in moderation or Mitahara.
Let’s throw some light on the food and it’s qualities according to Yoga and Ayurveda.

The Three Gunas are qualities in food ( and all the material) which affect the mind and the body.

Sattvic means balanced, harmony,purity,health and well-being.
Sattvic food promotes a clear mind and is fresh and nourishing.

Rajasic means activity, restlessness, anger and stress.
Foods made in anger ,fried food or over cooked Sattvic foods also get Rajasic qualities. A dominant Rajasic diet destroys the mind- body equilibrium.

Tamasic means lethargy, dullness and laziness.
Tamasic food raise the inertia and can dull the mind.

The yogic food guide pyramid recommends Sattvic food as the base, Rajasic foods if needed and reducing Tamasic foods as far as possible.

The food that we eat has a huge impact on us physically,mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
Let’s strive to increase the sattva through all aspects of life🙏🏻

"Mitahara" literally means “the habit of moderate food” .

From Sanskrit, mita means “moderate” and ahara means “diet” or “food consumption.”

Mitahara is a concept in Indian philosophy, particularly Yoga, that integrates awareness about food, drink, balanced diet and consumption habits and its effect on one's body and mind.

According to Hatha Yoga Pradipika (one of the most influential surviving texts on haṭha yoga)
one must “eat only when one feels hungry” also one should eat only half stomach full, fill one fourth of stomach with water and keep the remaining one fourth empty.
It is believed in the yogic philosophy that if you eat less than the body is full of energy. Overeating leads to lethargy and heaviness.

So a practitioner of yoga must always have Mitahara or moderate and balanced diet.

Regulating one’s established habits can help us move towards a healthier and better self.🙏

“Your decisions today will define your tomorrow “

Being from an engineering background and working with an esteemed IT firm, it was not an easy decision to quit the job and take up something I was passionate about.....
But having worked in the corporate for 3 years,life didn’t seem to move in a purposeful direction for me.

I wanted to do something which brings meaning to my life.
Having been connected to yoga since a young age I always wanted to dive deeper into this subject......So I decided to take up a course in yoga and that was it...... There was no looking back.
It has been a continuous study and Sadhna for me since then.
It has been the most beautiful subject.

Being an Internationally certified Hatha yoga teacher and a certified Prenatal and postnatal teacher,I wish to spread and share this ancient wisdom and phenomenal knowledge with others.

For me yoga is not about loosing weight or being flexible but so much more than that.
Each day on the mat is an opportunity to know yourself better and to dive deeper into yourself 🙏🏻
