South Point Chess Academy and Assam Chess Club with active support from Lions Club of Guwahati Eminence and Lions & Leo Club of Guwahati South hosted an Open rapid chess tournament at South Point School Barsapara Guwahati on the occasion of 80th Independence Day of India. Altogether 82 from players participated in 5 round tournament played under rapid time control of 15 minutes plus 10 seconds increment.

The Tournament was inaugurated by Wing Commander Pranjal Borgohain (retired) and Lion Sujit Bakeria second Vice District Governor in the presence of Lion Shyamalee Baruah, District Chairperson, Lion Subhajit Sinha Cabinet Member, Lion Anand Ayer, Past President, Lions Club of Guwahati, Nandan Buragohain Joint Secretary All Assam Chess Association, Krishnanjan Chanda Principal South Point School and host of other dignitaries.

Assam & Northeast India’s First International Arbiter Biswajit Bharadwaj was the Chief Arbiter of the event. He was supported by Senior National Arbiter Nandan Buragohain, Bidyut Borah, Nirmali Devi, Susmita Mazumder, Kanjit Ramchiary, Pallab Bhattacharjee and Rupam Sarma in the conduction of the event.

The top 6 players in each age category of Under 7, Under 11, Under 16 and Open category (Boys & Girls separately) were awarded prizes.

South Point School, Guwahati received the BEST SCHOOL award in the recently concluded 7th Late Kailash Nath Sarma Memorial Invitational Inter School Children Chess Championship 2025 organised by Assam Chess Club & Snehabandhan Chess Academy at their Jayanagar Guwahati premises. Our three students gave an excellent performance in the *πŸ† AKSHAYAM INDEPENDENCE DAY RAPID CHESS TOURNAMENT 2025 πŸ†* organised by by Assam Chess Club. Altogether 104 players played in this prestigious event.

1. *Shubham Bhattacharjee (Class 12)* – *Under-19 : πŸ₯‡ 1st Position*

South Point School chess team participated in the 4th B M Khaitan Memorial Inter School Chess Championship organized by Assam Valley School Balipara, Tezpur on 17th & 18th July 2025 where Subham Bhattacharjee class 12 & Priyanchi Dutta class 8 secured 1 gold medal each whereas Deesan Borkotoky class 11 won 1 bronze medal.

In the CBSE Far East Zone chess Championship held at Kharagpur West Bengal from 1st to 4th August 2025,
South point school Guwahati, secured 4th position in the Under 19 mixed category. The team comprised of the following players Shresht Varuruchi (Class 8 )
Deesan Borkataky (Class 11)
Nabajyoti Das (Class 12)
Subham Bhattacharjee (Class 12)

Subham Bhattacharjee of Class 12 scored 5 point in 5 rounds and secured the first prize in board number 4.

The team was accompanied by coach Bidyute Borah.

The tournament was organised by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and hosted by Griffins International School.
