South Point Chess Academy and Assam Chess Club with active support from Lions Club of Guwahati Eminence and Lions & Leo Club of Guwahati South hosted an Open rapid chess tournament at South Point School Barsapara Guwahati on the occasion of 80th Independence Day of India. Altogether 82 from players participated in 5 round tournament played under rapid time control of 15 minutes plus 10 seconds increment.
The Tournament was inaugurated by Wing Commander Pranjal Borgohain (retired) and Lion Sujit Bakeria second Vice District Governor in the presence of Lion Shyamalee Baruah, District Chairperson, Lion Subhajit Sinha Cabinet Member, Lion Anand Ayer, Past President, Lions Club of Guwahati, Nandan Buragohain Joint Secretary All Assam Chess Association, Krishnanjan Chanda Principal South Point School and host of other dignitaries.
Assam & Northeast Indiaβs First International Arbiter Biswajit Bharadwaj was the Chief Arbiter of the event. He was supported by Senior National Arbiter Nandan Buragohain, Bidyut Borah, Nirmali Devi, Susmita Mazumder, Kanjit Ramchiary, Pallab Bhattacharjee and Rupam Sarma in the conduction of the event.
The top 6 players in each age category of Under 7, Under 11, Under 16 and Open category (Boys & Girls separately) were awarded prizes.
