The Basketball Association of Sikkim (BAS) proudly sent its Senior Men’s and Senior Women’s teams to participate in the 75th Senior National Basketball Championship, held at Chennai from 4th to 11th January 2026.

This championship marked a historic milestone, as it was the first-ever participation of teams from Sikkim in the Senior National Basketball Tournament.

The Senior Women’s Team delivered an outstanding performance, winning three matches during the championship, while the Men’s team also won their maiden game and gained valuable experience at the national level.

3. Sikkim 88 – 14 Jharkhand
4. Sikkim 65 – 43 Uttarakhand
5. Sikkim 63 – 67 Telangana

The Basketball Association of Sikkim wholeheartedly congratulates all the players, coaches, and support staff of Team Sikkim for their dedication, hard work, and commendable achievements at the national level.

This achievement is a major milestone for basketball in Sikkim and would not have been possible without the continuous guidance and support of the Honourable Chief Minister and our esteemed Chief Patron. Their commitment to the development of sports in the state has inspired and empowered our athletes to compete on the national stage.

Earlier today, I met with the executive members and teams of the Basketball Association of Sikkim at Mintokgang. The delegation was led by President Shri Vishu Lama, Vice President Smt. Nima Choden Lhasungpa, Treasurer Shri Tsultrim Khampa, and State Coach Shri Sonam Barfungpa.

The men’s and women’s teams will be travelling to Chennai to participate in the 75th National Basketball Championship. I encouraged the players and extended my best wishes, expressing confidence that they will bring laurels to the state and make Sikkim proud in the upcoming tournament.

The Sikkim Women’s Basketball team won Bihar ( with very convincing score of Sikkim 68 : Bihar 36) at the 75th Sr. Nationals.
