Referee Refresher and Upgradation Course 2026 commences in Pakyong District, Sikkim.
The inaugural ceremony of the Referee Refresher and Upgradation Course 2026, organised by the Pakyong District Football Association (PDFA) under the aegis of All India Football Federation and Sikkim Football Association, was held at St Xavier School, Pakyong, today.
The programme was graced by Principal, St Xavier's School, Pakyong, Reverend Father Marcelino Sukden Lepcha as the chief guest.
The course, scheduled from January 24 to January 26, aims to refresh and upgrade referees’ knowledge, fitness, and officiating skills in line with current football rules.
During the session, Chief Referees Instructor of AIFF and Head of Referees, Sikkim, Mr Chamchuk Lama encouraged the participants to make the most of the opportunity and actively participate in the sessions. He also stated that the course would include sharing of practical officiating experiences to enhance understanding of the Laws of the Game.
Likewise, President, Pakyong District Football Association (PDFA) cm DFO (T), Mr S P Bhutia, expressed his happiness at seeing participants coming from far-off places. He thanked the Sikkim Football Association (SFA) for providing the platform and stated that PDFA, being a young association, has been undertaking various initiatives to promote football in the district.
He reminded the aspirants that their presence at the course was driven by passion and urged them to remain focused on learning and performing well throughout the programme. He further stated that football is a democratic sport and encouraged the participants to carry forward their passion for the game.
Emphasising that every sport is governed by laws, he highlighted that the course aims to educate referees on the Laws of the Game and help them become well-informed officials. He also encouraged the aspirants to exchange ideas and expressed hope to see them officiating at the international level in the future.
Further, General Secretary PDFA cm Joint Director, Sports and Youth Affairs Department, Mr Nim Dorjee Bhutia highlighted the aim of the course and emphasised the importance of developing local resources and worki
