Hey folks !

The opening match of Inter Batch 2018 between the 1st Years and the 4th Years turned out to be a completely one-sided affair as the 4th Years thrashed the 1st Years by 6 wickets.

Playing their very first game as a batch team, the 1st Years won the toss and opted to bat first. Openers Jash Patel and Akshay Shrivastava started positively scoring 20(17) and 21(11) respectively but once they were dismissed, the batting collapsed to 86 all out in 14.2 overs. With the ball, Mragank Shukla and Abhishek Sharma were the chief destroyers as they picked up 4 wickets and 3 wickets respectively.

Chasing just 87 runs for victory, the 4th years chased it down comfortably with more than 5 overs to spare. Once again, the stars with the bat were Mragank, who blasted 36(20) and Abhishek who played the perfect anchor scoring 29(24). For the 1st years, new talent Jatin Jarwal picked up 3 wickets but it wasn't enough to stop the mighty 4th Years.

Man of the Match- Mragank Shukla

Fixture for tomorrow- 2nd Years Vs 5th Years at 3:30 pm.

MEET THE CAPTAINS- Inter Batch 2018 Edition

Known for his explosive cameos with the bat and intelligent bowling in key situations, all-rounder Akshat Bharadwaj has cemented his place in the University team and is ready to lead the 3rd years team in this edition of Interbatch cricket. These are his thoughts about the upcoming tournament :

1. You have played some fantastic knocks this season in important matches. What are your expectations from this tournament on a personal front?

Personally my expectations from this tournament remains the same as every other tournament I play that is give my best on field. I have a great line of players who I enjoy playing with and I know for a fact that they too give their best on field making my job quite easy.

2. Talking about your team, you'll have always been considered as favourites in the past editions of interbatch but somehow, you'll haven't won the tournament yet. Your take?

We have been considered favourites because of what we're capable of and we'll make sure that the people get their favourites as their winners this time. The team is ready and pumped up to express themselves on the field .

3. Apart from Akshansh Sharma, your bowling attack seems to be extremely inexperienced. How do you plan to address this issue ?

Akshansh Sharma is definitely leading our bowling attack but we've made sure that he is well supported by Abhijeet Karan , Aman Agarwal , Shashwat Solanki and Shravan Pandey at the other end. They have time and again proved their capability to handle pressure situations, I myself can come handy in crunch situations hence I wouldn't call our bowling to be on the inexperienced side.

4. Who according to you is the dark horse in your team and why?

A dark horse is someone who unexpectedly wins , I don't think so I have any of those as we 11 know our roles on the field and will try to justify our roles based on the situation we're in.

5. Which team do you feel poses the biggest threat to your team in this edition of Interbatch Cricket. Why ?

I don't feel any threat but surely the fourth years are a team I'm looking forward to play with as they are in my opinion a very complete side.

We wish the 3rd years team the very best for the tournament.

MEET THE CAPTAINS- Inter Batch 2018 Edition

Captain of the GNLU University Cricket team and arguably the most technically sound batsman in the university, Captain Courageous Varun Pradhan is all set to lead the star studded 4th years team in this edition of Interbatch Cricket. Here's what he has to say:

1. You have been in a rich vein of form, scoring a mountain of runs this season. How do you bring this level of consistency in your game?

Firstly, leather ball cricket is my game that I have played since I was a kid and hence I feel at home playing with the harder ball. Also, now that we have started practicing regularly I am fitter and in finer touch. I think that has been the difference.

2. Coming to your team, it boasts of a number of experienced players with some amazing skills. How does it feel to lead such a talented bunch of players ?

We won the interbatch cricket tournament in our first year itself. Apart from great players I am very proud of our batch for the camraderie we share. There's hardly a dull moment even when times are tough and hence we play as a team.

3. Your leadership has been impeccable this year with the University team performing outstandingly in Yuvardha, IIM and our very own Justice League. How much of an impact has captaincy had on your game?

Captaincy has definitely helped me take up more responsibility in the sense of not only the on field part, but also bringing a cricketing culture to college and that has showed in the past year. Now we are a cricket team while earlier we were just a bunch of guys playing cricket.

4. Your team has a strong batting lineup but when it comes to the bowling, there are no reliable go-to bowlers who can deliver under pressure. Your take ?

That is one thing I am wary of and something that I am yet to figure out but I am sure we'll be able to churn out some good bowlers who have given cricket a rest for some while now. There are many dormant beasts in our batch, mind you.

5. In the previous edition of Interbatch cricket, your team dominated the league stage but unfortunately couldn't clinch the final. How do you plan to change that this time around?

I would like that question to be left for when we make it to the finals. Its a long road till we get to that point. I would just like to remain optimistic.

We wish Varun and his team the very best for the upcoming tournament.

MEET THE CAPTAIN- Inter Batch 2018 Edition

A promising young fast bowler with lots of pace and bounce. We had a chat with the spontaneous Pranav Dhoke, captain of the 1st year's team, and this is what he had to say:

1. This will be your first interbatch tournament in GNLU. How does it feel to lead your batch team ?

I am very excited as it is my first interbatch tournament and the first opportunity to play with my batchmates, and when it comes to leading the side it is not a big deal as the whole team is very balanced and all the 11 players know their duties on the field.

2. According to you, which batch is the strongest in this edition and why ?

According to me fourth years are the strongest as they have a good batting line up and a experienced bowling attack and apart from that they are lethal when it comes to fielding , that's why I think they have a good chance ahead.

3. There are notions about your team that there are no dependable bowlers apart from you who can bowl in tough situations. Your thoughts?

This is not the case exactly, as we all know that how well Akshay bowled throughout the Justice League in the death overs, Abhishek Iyer and Hriday can bowl very good economic spells and we also have 2-3 fresh bowlers who will surprise everyone with their bowling skills.

4. Being the newest batch, tell us a bit about your team. Who are your key players?

Our team is full of energy and is very excited , when it comes to key players there is Akshay who is right now one of the most complete all-rounders of Gnlu , he is an ordinary guy with extraordinary talent and skills and he has proven it many times , Jash is a dependable batsman , Ashish Jha can turn the game on his own from anywhere by his immense powerhitting .

5. Which players from the University are you inspired by the most and why ?

First I want to take name of Varun sir as he is the person who gave me opportunity to play Yuvardha and represent our university , whenever you see him fielding or batting it looks like he cannot commit a single mistake. Moreover his dedication and passion is like wow. Then there are Vishal sir and Arjun sir, the two fifth years who showed us that how to win big tournaments by performing extraordinarily in JL 18, they always have the hunger to win and their never say die attitude. I think not only just me, infact everyone in the whole university are inspired by them.

We wish the youngster and his team the very best for the tournament.

MEET THE CAPTAINS- Inter Batch 2018 Edition

He has been the rock of GNLU'S batting lineup, shouldering the responsibility of scoring runs each time he has walked out to bat for the last 5 years. We caught up with Mr. Consistent Arjun Patel, captain of the 5th years team and this is what he had to say :

1. You will be playing your last interbatch tournament. What are your expectations from your team in this edition of Interbatch?

I expect all the players to know their role in the team, why they are in the batch team and play accordingly, instead of relying on two or three key players. I want all the team members to give 100% while on the field.

2. Being the defending champions must add extra pressure on you this time around. Your thoughts?

A true sports person always embaraces challenges in the game. I hope that the fact that we are defending champions, will bring the best out of us this time too.

3. Being a key player of your team, you haven't played tennis ball cricket for a long time. How much do you think would this affect your team's chances in this tournament?

I dont think it will affect my game. Its true that I haven't played tennis ball cricket since almost a year now. However, playing leather ball cricket since last two months has improved my game which will help me to excel my performance in tennis ball cricket.

4. Who is the most valuable player of your team ?

The entire squad is valuable for me, because cricket is a team game and each player has a role to play. "Main to kehta hu ki jo log support karne aate he woh bhi valuable he".
However, I am going to miss Ishkaran this time as unfortunately he is injured and there are less chances of him playing interbatch.

5. Having played so many editions of Interbatch Cricket over the years, what are your best memories of this tournament?

My best memory of interbatch tournament is the semi-final match against 5th years during my 2nd year. We won that match by defending a mediocre target. We had lost a match against them in that tournament initially, so it was kind of a payback time, and the 3rd years too celebrated with us when we defeated the mighty 5th years. 😂

We wish Mr. Consistent and his team the very best for their last Interbatch Cricket tournament.

MEET THE CAPTAINS- Inter Batch Edition 2018

Leading the pace attack of the University team for the last 2 years, GNLU's very own Mohammad Amir, Prahalad Naganath is all set to lead the 2nd Years in their third edition of the Interbatch Cricket tournament.
Here's what he had to say about his expectations from this edition:

1. You have always been considered a street smart player which you've shown through your variations in bowling as well as your captaincy. What are your expectations from this interbatch on a personal front?

This edition of Interbatch has been much awaited. The team is all set to express themselves on the field and play an aggressive brand of cricket. On a personal note, I look forward to contributing as much as I can for the team in all three departments of the game.

2. Your side still looks for their first win since you have started playing interbatch. Do you consider this adds extra pressure on you and your team ?

Not at all. In fact, this is the biggest motivator for the boys to go out there and perform as we have nothing to lose. Even in the previous edition of Interbatch, we lost two extremely close matches which could have gone either way. I'm pretty confident we're going to change that this time around.

3. Although Vinay Sharma has played some interesting cameos, but apart from Shubham Agarwal, your side lacks a dependable batsman. How will you address this issue this time around ?

Our batting order has really matured over the last one year. Each batsman knows his role now and since all of them have been playing regularly this season, they're all in good form. Apart from the names above, we also have Shamik, Manish and Deval who have shown how effective they can be with the bat so the batting isn't a concern for us.

4. Which team do you think are the strongest and who do you think are the dark horses of this interbatch?

All the teams look well balanced this time so there isn't any clear favourite. The 1st years are definitely the dark horses. They have some exciting players in their side. Looking forward to see how they perform under pressure.

5. Who is the trump card of your team ?

It would be extremely difficult to name any one player. Each member of the squad has a specific role to perform. Cricket is a team game and it will take a complete team effort to win the tournament. The boys are up for it and are raring to get going on the field.

We wish Prahalad and his boys the very best for this edition of Interbatch !

Hearty congratulations to the GNLU Cricket Team for winning the silver medal in Yuvardha V, organized by National Law University, Jodhpur.

After a loss in their opening fixture against NLUJ, the team made a sensational comeback by winning the next two matches against HNLU and GLC, Mumbai, thus sealing their spot in the semi finals.

Against HNLU, SHUBHAM DIMRI was the star with the bat scoring 29(20). With the ball, the pace bowling duo of VISHAL KUMAR and PRAHALAD NAGANATH ripped them apart by picking 4 wickets and 3 wickets respectively as they were bowled out for just 41 runs.

Against GLC Mumbai, batsmen SHUBHAM DIMRI 39(13), AKSHAT BHARADWAJ 25(16) and DARSHIL SHAH 22(21) dominated the bowling. VISHAL KUMAR picked up 2 wickets.

In the semi final against RMNLU, all batsmen contributed with decent scores. It was the bowling that won GNLU the game as PRAHALAD NAGANATH terrorized the opposition with pace and some lethal slower ones picking up 4 wickets. AKSHAT BHARADWAJ and VISHAL KUMAR chipped in with 2 wickets each.

After thrashing RMNLU in the semi final, GNLU stormed into the finals which was to be played against arch rivals NLUJ. Despite putting in their best efforts the team was unable to beat the hosts in what was an even contest.
