To evaluate the viability of the Alternative Games, a small-scale sample event, labeled “Edition 0”, was held in San Martin de Elines (Cantabria) in 2012. Well known athletes such as Iker Casillas supported the event through social media

, while others already retired from active competition, such as Emilio Amavisca, José Manuel Abascal, Iñaki Perurena, Vicente Miera or Mariano Haro, supported our efforts with their presence at the Games. The huge success of this event was the starting point for both setting up the professional structure and promoting the games internationally. Company Overview -

The UAC makes a distinction between games and sports, disciplines and methods, and finally Categories or Competitions. A sport is one or more disciplines that have something in common. As a tribute to the spirit in which the Olympics were born, and to serve as inspiration in the path of the ALTERNATIVE GAMES, there will be a sport or discipline in each edition that was part of the latest edition of the Olympic Games. Moreover, there are alternative sports and disciplines which may seem “Olympic”, yet they are not because of different methods. In addition, the list of sporting events and alternatives disciplines is subject to change in every issue; at the discretion of the UAC, events may be added or removed. Once a sport or discipline has been part of the Alternative Games, it will be forever considered Alternative, and may be part of all future Alternative Games, regardless if the Olympic Committee subsequently integrates this event among their competitions. Each sport will have a maximum number of participants. The specific rules of each game, the compatibility of events with regards to timing, and the maximum number of participants in each category, will be published on the website and on social networks. The organization reserves the right to amend any rule. AWARDS
Winning athletes in each sport, discipline or category will receive on the podium gold, silver or bronze medals while the anthem of the games and the State for which the athlete competes plays. Each State may establish incentives for the medal winners. In addition, participants will receive gifts of various kinds provided by sponsors of the Alternative Games. TIMING AND SCOPE
The Alternative Games were set up originally on a bi-annual basis, and thus take place every two years. The Alternative Games are universal, leaving open the possibility of hosting the Games in any city that shows interest and has the capacity to carry out a project like this, always at the discretion of the UAC. PARTICIPATION
Alternative Games have additional unique traits beyond those referred to in the description of the same; they are designed so that all citizens of the place where the games are held feel part of the event. They may compete for a medal in certain disciplines. The number of participants from each State will be determined according to the criteria of the UAC. Any participant in the Alternative Games must be born in the state he represents, or be a resident for the past 10 years, in which case a certificate will be submitted to the SAC as proof. Only recognized SACs may enter competitors in the Games, and will make recommendations about the federations. In the absence of associated State Federation for certain sports where there is a recognized SAC, the latter may enter competitors individually according to strict criteria. Final approval is given by the UAC. General Information
