Khelo India Asmita Women’s Kickboxing League: A New Era of Women Empowerment Through Sports Kickboxing in India has entered a historic phase with its inclusion in the prestigious Khelo India Asmita Program, a flagship initiative of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, aimed at promoting women’s participation in sports and strengthening grassroots development across the nation.
Under this visionary program, the WAKO India Kickboxing Federation has been officially authorized to conduct the Asmita Khelo India Women’s Kickboxing League, which will span 32 States and Union Territories, covering 150 cities, and structured across four zones – West, North, South, and East. This nationwide initiative is expected to connect more than 30,000 women athletes, making it one of the largest women-centric combat sports programs in India.
1st Khelo India Asmita Women’s Kickboxing West Zone League – Indore 2025
The journey begins with the 1st Khelo India Asmita Women’s Kickboxing West Zone League, scheduled to be held in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, from 24th to 28th December 2025. This landmark event will witness the participation of talented women athletes from the western region, competing across cadet, junior, and senior categories.
Speaking on this historic occasion, Mr. Santosh Kumar Agrawal, President, WAKO India Kickboxing Federation, stated that kickboxing has now become an integral part of the esteemed “Khelo (Play) India Asmita Program”, reflecting the growing recognition of the sport at the national level.
“This is a great initiative by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, towards the development of women empowerment. Through kickboxing, women not only gain competitive opportunities but also develop self-confidence, discipline, physical fitness, and self-defence skills,” he said.
City Leagues, Zonal Leagues & All India Inter-Zonal League
The Asmita Khelo India Women’s Kickboxing League follows a well-defined competitive pathway:
City Leagues will be conducted across 150 cities in 32 States/UTs
Qualified athletes will advance to Zonal Leagues (West, North, South & East)
Top performers from zonal competitions will earn qualification for the All India Inter-Zonal Asmita Kickboxing League 2025–26
Athletes qualifying for the All India Inter-Zonal League will also receive the benefit of cash awards provided by the Sports Authority of India (SAI), further motivating women athletes to pursue excellence in sports.

This mega initiative aims to harness India’s vast sporting talent, inspire young women, and provide them with structured competition, professional exposure, and high-quality infrastructure. The league offers a powerful platform for women athletes to showcase their skills at the highest level and contributes significantly to the growth of kickboxing in India.
The Khelo India program envisions nurturing talent from the grassroots, training athletes with world-class facilities, and enabling them to bring laurels to the nation on international platforms. The introduction of kickboxing under the Asmita vertical marks a significant milestone in expanding opportunities for women in combat sports.

The successful inclusion of kickboxing in the Khelo India program is the result of the collective efforts of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Sports Authority of India (SAI), and the WAKO India Kickboxing Federation.
WAKO India expressed gratitude to the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji, Hon’ble Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Shri Mansukh Mandaviya Ji, and Hon’ble Minister of State Smt. Raksha Khadse Ji for their constant encouragement and support towards the development of kickboxing and women’s sports in India.

We are targeting 30,000+ women athletes to participate in the Asmita Khelo India Women’s Kickboxing League 2025–26, which will be conducted across 32 States/UTs – 150 cities till March 2026.
