When we talk of Somatics, we talk about the Experience of body. Experiences it has had in the past and presently having

Working with body even in present experience many times bring us to the past experiences in the form of flashbacks and memories

Our nervous system, depending on its capacity respond in the form of body’s gestures of mobility or immobility

And here coming to the ‘Movement’ that is slow, gentle and in attention shifts our nervous system responses and may lead it towards more space and availability to experience our fullness again

I have experiences in my own practice that even indirectly working with expanding this space made me better in terms of availability to adverse situations, that could have put me in a state of defence

So what I am trying to say is that you need not directly work with a trauma experience

Our capacity can be worked with a somatic practice- becoming present, landing in the bones and expansion of internal space with breath and movement, and it will most likely reflect as a preparation to meet when the experience or memory repeats itself

This is a demonstration of a move from Tai Chi Shibashi Qigong

I know it might be tricky to understand why are all these names put together. These are separate practices in itself but derived from one another. So there is always an overlap even when we begin to learn Tai Chi, originally known as Tai chi chuan

How to create a quality of movement?

One of the ways is Visualising elements of nature

I believe we as humans are a force in itself and making ourself part of the bigger picture is one way to be “inclusive and humble” in our practice

To create a floating quality, to use gentle resistance is an essential when we practice Tai chi. This further translates into a graceful yet engaged flow in our movement.

This section is a glimpse from the workshop held at Kurma Kshetra earlier this month

Tai chi chuan, shibashi, qigong, learn tai chi in mysore, mysore events, movement culture, martial arts, better living, health and wellness

Known as Brush the knee, this movement is one of the foundational moves of Tai Chi

It trains your upper-lower body coordination, balance and weight transference all at the same time.

The counter force of push and pull is a quality we build when we do Tai chi that creates space in joints and strengthen them

Strengthening is not always about pushing harder but using the right amount of effort and learning where to generate from

Curious to learn TAI CHI, I am offering an Online as well as Offline (in Mysore) program starting very soon

Feel the grace
Build your stance
Move effortlessly 🌊

Some of the remains from time in Himachal

Plant world, the green world draws me in like nothing else. The tiniest mosses to stingiest nettle, the poky grasses to textured trunks, creepers crawling on broken barks and leaves haunting like scarecrows mark.

Tiniest corn among the setting sun field, the layers of mountains matching mushrooms on dead trees.

To keep them long in my memory
To feel present and alive in their presence

To this time of 2026 🌻

In the Somatic movement classes, CRP is my baseline

I love this position for multiple reasons

~ decompression of spine
Our spine is the pathway for central nervous system. When there is space created, it allows the fluids and information to flow freely

~ the factor of undoing
The gravity does the work and we have to ALLOW to release the muscle tensions that further improves our structural alignment

~ safety
Having ground underneath becomes the biggest support for nervous support. When the bones feel landed it makes you arrive in your body in a solid manner

~ creative boost & mental clarity
Many times in my own practice i have got the best ideas when I am in CRP as it is a reset to the rushing thoughts and makes the headspace clear

One of my client shared:
“We begin in a position called the constructive rest position. I love that word. I feel as though that word understands that some people need to construct rest. It is not something that can be easily fallen into. Observe the tension, send breath to it. The more you breathe, the more that life force reminds you of its power. The more it becomes a being within you. With its own desires. I sensed my breath desiring to reach to my pain. “

A constructed REST is today’s reality I believe when rest is something one easily ignores or undermine its power

And this is the kind of space I am trying to create with Somatic movement sessions

We begin with a rested body
We grow into movement with stillness

This is when the system feels safe enough to explore and expand its capacity

Only a rested body is capable of come out of fight/ flight/ freeze mode

If you are interested to try some CRP guided sessions, dm me with your interest
