Former Indian cricketer Amit Mishra made his debut for India in 2003; however, after playing just one game, the wily leg-spinner was dropped. Soon, he was no longer part of the domestic setup and eventually lost his form as well.

“I went into depression for a year and a half. I kept thinking about what my mistake was. I was playing everywhere, but the only question in my mind was that, ‘what did I do wrong?’,” said Mishra in a conversation with Aakash Chopra.

Former cricketer Kris Srikkanth slammed Gautam Gambhir for not giving chance to vaibhav Suryavanshi.

"They have not only spoiled his (Sanju Samson's) confidence, India have totally spoiled Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's confidence. He could have been given three matches against a team like the West Indies. Now that they've seen Abhishek for so long, he can be rested, and Sooryavanshi and Samson can open in the next match," Srikkanth said in a YouTube video.

Former India opener Virender Sehwag said that he finds Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s propensity to go after the bowler right from the off similar to how he himself used to play for the country.

“Sooryavanshi is is in his prime, and his thinking is somewhat similar to mine, that of hitting right from the first ball. Now, it is about when he gets the opportunity and how many matches he plays for India,” Sehwag said.

Australian legend Shane Watson highly criticized team India head coach for continuous cutting and chopping in the playing xi.

He said : “The thing that you continue to see and the reason India have been inconsistent under Gambhir is the chopping and changing around the batting order all the time. Players are coming in and out always, and when the team is unsettled, be it the batting order or players coming in and out, that just makes it more difficult for the team to be consistent. That’s why India have been so inconsistent."

Former cricketer Wasim Jaffer raised question on removing Rohit Sharma from odi captaincy.

He said: "Rohit Sharma should have been retained as the ODI captain. He should have also remained the captain of Mumbai Indians. I won't say the decision was completely wrong, as Shubman Gill has done well, but when you have someone like Rohit Sharma available, he should be the captain. You can always pass the baton to Shubman Gill after the 50-over World Cup," Jaffer said in a video on his YouTube channel.

Speaking to ANI about Kohli, Tanvir praised Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma .

"Virat's numbers are so monumental that I don't even need to say anything—they speak for themselves. Beyond Indian cricket, look at the immense service he has rendered to world cricket, the countless moments of joy he has delivered, and how much he has entertained fans with his extraordinary talent. Full praise to him," Tanvir said.

“Just as I remarked about Rohit, having Kohli play for as long as possible is an absolute blessing for Indian cricket,” the former Pakistan pacer added.

Speaking at the official launch event of the 2027 ODI World Cup, Lara identified South Africa as his top contender for the title. The Proteas will have the advantage of playing the tournament on home soil, something Lara believes could work strongly in their favour.

“South Africa hosting after 24 years, I fancy them this time around. I think they are going to be my No.1 team,” Lara said.

“Don’t rule out the West Indies rolling through the qualifiers, getting in there and causing some chaos,” Lara added.

Brian Lara admits ODI cricket has lost ground to Tests and T20s, but he wants one thing protected. He says the number of bilateral ODIs can be cut, but a 50-over World Cup every four years is a necessity.

His comments, shared by Cricbuzz on October 3, came two days after the ICC launched the 2027 World Cup schedule in Cape Town. Lara attended the launch alongside Shaun Po***ck and Aaron Finch.

“There are more appealing formats of the game than ODIs. Test cricket remains very strong in countries like England and Australia, while T20 has captured the attention of fans everywhere. So, I can understand the challenge,” Lara said.

“ODI cricket is sandwiched between the World Test Championship and the T20 World Cup, but it remains an important format of the game,” he added.

“Perhaps the number of bilateral ODIs can be reduced, but the ODI World Cup must continue to be held every four years,” he said.

Dinesh Karthik, former India cricketer asserted that the national team has moved on from Shami and there is "no point" in going back to him, even if the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) chief selector Ajit Agarkar is no longer holding his seat.

"No, I feel there are other pacers," Karthik said when asked about Shami's place, in a video with Cricbuzz.

"India moved beyond him. There is no point in going back. So I wouldn't be looking at Shami, even though he has bowled very well," he added.
