Major Breakthrough: First-of-Its-Kind Advanced Laparoscopic Cancer Surgery Performed at GMC Doda

Doda Jan. 31:- In a significant milestone for healthcare in the Chenab Valley, the Department of *General Surgery at Government Medical College (GMC) Doda* has successfully performed its first-ever Advanced Minimal Access Surgery for carcinoma re**um. The complex procedure, known as Laparoscopic Low Anterior Resection (LAR), was conducted on a 73-year-old male patient, marking a major advancement in cancer care services in the region.

The patient, diagnosed with locally advanced re**al cancer, had earlier undergone neo-adjuvant chemoradiotherapy at GMC Jammu and was subsequently advised definitive surgical management. Being a resident of a far-flung area of District Doda, the patient chose to undergo surgery at his local institution, GMC Doda.

After detailed evaluation by Dr Sajan Bijyal, Surgical Oncologist, Department of General Surgery, the surgery was successfully performed by Dr Sajan Bijyal and his team, which included Dr Peeyush, OT technicians Mr Nadeem and Mr Kamran, with critical support from the Anaesthesia team led by Dr Shafiq and Dr Guddi Devi.
The patient had an uneventful postoperative recovery and was discharged in a stable condition with advice for regular follow-up.

While speaking Dr Sajan Bijyal stated that such advanced laparoscopic colore**al surgeries are usually confined to well-established tertiary care centres equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure and high surgical expertise. The successful ex*****on of this complex procedure at GMC Doda represents a major leap in bringing advanced surgical care to the doorsteps of the rural population of the Chenab Valley, significantly reducing the need for patients to travel long distances for specialized treatment.
Dr Bijyal further acknowledged the guidance and support of Principal GMC Doda, Dr Rakesh Bahl, stating that the institution is steadily developing the capacity to provide comprehensive and modern cancer care, which is a matter of pride for the entire region.

The initiative taken by Dr Sajan Bijyal and his team, despite limited infrastructure, has been widely appreciated by the public and stands as a testament to the growing capabilities of GMC Doda in delivering advanced healthcare services.

Traffic Police Doda Organises Tiranga Rally to Promote Road Safety

Doda Aug 11:- Today Traffic Police Doda, in collaboration with students of Government Boys Higher Secondary School Doda and NCC cadets, today organised a Tiranga Rally in Doda city as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations ahead of Independence Day.

Dysp (Traffic Doda–Kishtwar) Sarabjeet Singh said the main aim of the rally was to spread awareness among the people of Chenab Valley about road safety rules. He urged the public to always wear helmets while riding two-wheelers, avoid using mobile phones while driving, ensure that persons below 18 years do not drive vehicles, and always wear seat belts in cars.

Singh emphasised that by strictly following traffic rules, road accidents in the Chenab Valley can be reduced significantly.

DISTRICT POLICE KISHTWAR INTENSIFIES CRACKDOWN ON TERROR NETWORK

Kishtwar, August 09, 2025: Continuing its relentless drive against terrorism, District Police Kishtwar today conducted coordinated surprise raids on multiple locations linked to active terrorists currently operating from Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

*The raid were carried out on the directions of SSP Kishtwar, Sh. Naresh Singh-JKPS* and executed under the close supervision of *Addl. SP Kishtwar, Sh. Pardeep Singh Goria-JKPS* . Multiple police teams were deployed simultaneously across *Kishtwar, Chatroo, Dachhan, and Atholi,* targeting hideouts and residential premises of terrorists and their associates.

The raids were aimed at disrupting the local support network for cross-border terrorists, gathering actionable intelligence related to anti-national activities, and sending a strong deterrent message to individuals or groups engaged in supporting or sheltering such elements. During the searches, police teams examined targeted premises for electronic devices, documents, and other material evidence linked to terror financing, radicalization, and cross-border communication.

Kishtwar Police remains firmly committed to ensuring the peace, stability, and security of the district. Any person found involved in aiding or harboring terrorists will face strict legal action,” stated SSP Kishtwar, reiterating the force’s zero-tolerance stance against terrorism.

This raid forms part of a sustained counter-terror strategy across Jammu & Kashmir aimed at dismantling terrorist infrastructure, Over Ground Workers (OGWs) network and severing logistical support channels to anti-national elements.

Indian Army Celebrates Raksha Bandhan with Locals in Doda

Doda, August 09: Reaffirming the enduring bond between the Indian Army and the people of Jammu & Kashmir, the Sohanda Battalion of Delta Force celebrated Raksha Bandhan with local students and community members across Khellani, Assar, Patnitop, Mantalai, Latti, and Sohanda.

In a heartfelt display of affection, young girls tied sacred Rakhis on soldiers, symbolising the deep trust, respect, and love the community shares with the Indian Army. The celebration saw the enthusiastic participation of over 280 students and 70 women, turning the occasion into a vibrant expression of unity, faith, and brotherhood.

The event not only strengthened emotional connections but also reinforced the Army’s role as both protector and friend of the local populace. Teachers, elders, and residents praised the celebration as a reaffirmation of cultural traditions and a testament to national integration.

Indian Army celebrated 76th Republic Day at far flung area of G*i Dessa

Doda Jan, 26:- 10 RR (Rajput), Gei Coy celebrated the 76th Republic Day with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervor on January 26, 2025. The event was graced by the presence of Captain Prateek, the Coy Commander of Gei, as the Chief Guest. He was joined by Mr. Vishal Kumar, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Dessa, as the Guest of Honor.

The celebration witnessed an impressive turnout, with villagers from all nearby areas and children joining to mark this momentous occasion. The event began with the hoisting of the national flag by Captain Prateek, accompanied by the singing of the national anthem, which filled the air with a sense of pride and unity.
