The gymnasium of the mind and the struggle against the terror...the beauty of this game lies not in its appearance but in the thought involved behind each move!!

And, as rightly said, "DIFFICULTIES MASTERED ARE OPPORTUNITIES WON", so we at Acuity, *Department of Mathematics, Hindu College* proudly present *"CHESS TOURNAMENT"*, one of the most celebrated events of our Annual Fest *Alpha'20* We beckon all the Chess admirers to come, witness and experience the war over the board‼

Remember,if you are not big enough to lose, you are not big enough to win...
With impenetrable defenses and solid pawn structures, grit your teeth and harden your heart to make your mark among the masters!!!
Participation : Solo
*Details of the event*
The event is divided into two parts:
1)Preliminary/Qualifying Round : All the participants will be given a set of 15 chess puzzles. The participants will be asked to solve the puzzles comprising of mates in one, two or three moves in the alloted time.
2.) Twenty students who score maximum in the qualifying round will qualify for the chess tournament.
*Rules and regulations :*
1.)The tournament will be conducted as per latest rules of World Chess Federation (FIDE) and Swiss System.
2.)Time Control - 15 minutes +10 seconds per move (Rapid game time controls).
3.) In case of a tie, the latest FIDE rule shall come into effect.
4.)The cash prizes however will not be shared.
*Note:* The decision of the organizers will be final and abiding in case of any dispute.

Akshat Negi of Aps Electronics Deparment participated in 49th NATIONAL JUNIOR UNDER 19 OPEN CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP 2019 in Gurgaon. The young lad came out victorious against many higher rated players then him and gained 143 ELO points. We congratulate him for his wonderful performance and wish him good luck for his future endeavors.

Mathematics Department conducted a Chess Tournament in its annual department fest- ALPHA 2019. The event witnessed a huge participation from students of nearing around 30 different colleges. Amongst these, there were Eighteen International Rated Players who had participated. The event was majorly divided into two parts-
1)PUZZLE SOLVING ROUND
2)CHESS TOURNAMENT
Cash Prizes were given to the top four position holders after the termination of both the rounds.
We would like to Congratulate the Top four Positions holders and Name of the Winners are as follows-
1. Chandar Raju - Hansraj College(1st prize- Rs. 2000/-)
2. Sudarshan Malga- S.R.C.C.(2nd prize- Rs. 1500/-)
3. Sanchit Anand- Hansraj College(3rd prize- Rs. 1000/-)
4. Chetan Chauhan- Hindu College(4th prize- RS. 500/-)
This event couldnt have been possible without the support of Hindu College and the entire Mathematics Department who left no stone unturned to make this tournament a huge success.

We would like to congratulate Vivek Bhardwaj from Physics Department for his excellent perfomance in Dr. Bharat Ram Sports Meet 2019 at Lady Sri Ram College, Delhi University. He managed to get placed on third position in the merit list. He was decorated with a Medal, Merit certicate and a bag containing some goodies. We wish him Good luck for his future endeavours.

Hindu Chess Team backed Second Runner Up position in an annual Sports Fest, Erobern 2019 from 20th-22nd of February organised by The Department of Physical Education and Sports,Miranda College. The team was felicitated with a team trophy,individual Medals and certificates. We would also like to appreciate the hospitality, good playing atmosphere and the refreshments provided to each player. We hope such events are organised in future also. The team comprised of the following players-
