Walking back from the gym this morning I saw young kids, as young as 13-16 making and smoking pot at 7:10 am. It reminded me of the time when I, influenced by a research article - “The next generation will live 5 years lesser due to their sedentary lifestyle and propensity to screens”, started training young kids within my residential vicinity. The pure power of sport stood cogent and over coming weeks and months we went from 18 kids to 60 kids who became disciplined, fitter, better, grittier, stronger, more social, agile and better team players. They learnt to handle wins & losses and be ok with them.
As a parent I continue to do the same for my 9 yr old and his friends. My friends and I have made it a ritual to play with the kids every Saturday and Sunday…this way, we set a positive example for them, keep them away from delinquent behaviour and also share a strong bond with them. In the process they have lots of FUN.
I believe that every vicinity has parents who can start doing this…play with them, play team games, physical games, be a guest coach for your kid’s school team…you will see a drastic change…in our future generation and yourselves.
Are you doing this for your loved ones - Kids? For your next generation?
