“What started as a way to loose weight didn’t know when turned out to be my passion. “
I remember I was just 16years old and was very overweight. In order to loose some weight I joined boxing academy. I didn’t tell at home for first 6 months and used to manage the fees on my own.
From there being an overweight child to here I am today at 49Kgs National Medalist.
The journey was never easy. Boxing is such game where injuries and cuts are 100% expected. I don’t go to home for about a week after my match because I know how scared my parents would be seeing my face.
My mom is my biggest supporter and fan. I know it might sound filmy but she sits in front of the the temple for the whole duration of my match.
One of my biggest downfall was when I went to participate in Khelo India and was denied entry. I faced discrimination by the federations as I belonged to a small Union Territory- Daman. Even after my win at Nationals, there were rumors about me being from Haryana. It shattered me to see such prejudice against small states.
Being my backbone my Coach- Vijay Pahal made sure I never gave up on boxing. He ensures I train up rigorously for my goal to be part of the Army team and get training from the best boxers in the world.
People call me “Charlie” of the boxing community because everyone who sees my game is always amused and happy by my dancing moves. I always believed in playing it for passion and happiness and never took it as for competing.
I surely wish to take my country ahead and represent it in Olympics.
