After weeks of unceasing actions filled with late-goal dramas, breakthroughs and upsets, the much fan-fare 78th Zomi Nam Ni Football Tournament 2026 edition will draw into conclusion today when Ganggam Soccer Club takes on Zomi FC in the final showdown at Phungkhothang Guite Mawltual (Lamka Football Ground), Hiangtam Lamka.
_The final match cm closing ceremony will be graced by Shri Losii Dikho, Hon'ble Dy. CM, Govt. of Manipur; Shri Ngursanglur Sanate, Hon'ble MLA, and Shri LM Khaute, Hon'ble MLA along with Shri Vungzagin Valte, Hon'ble MLA as well as Shri Thanglianpau Guite, President ZRO, as Chief Guest, Guest of Honour, Functional Presidents and Chief Host respectively while Shri Dharun Kumar S, DC - Churachandpur; Brig. Prashanth, Commander 27 Sector Assam Rifles; Shri Gaurav Dogra, SP-Churachandpur, will also grace the function as special guests._
_The final match will be played between Ganggam Soccer Club and Zomi FC and this final showpiece is anticipated to be an evenly contested encounter._
Both Ganggam SC and Zomi FC shared history on the ground that both had played in Manipur's premier club competition - the Manipur State League in recent years.
In the context of this Zomi Nam Ni Football Tournament history, Ganggam SC are still eyeing their first trophy while Zomi FC had won the inaugural edition of 2010 but since then, they had never come close to adding that history until this term.
Unlike other previous tournaments or recent years, Ganggam Soccer Club haven't had much superstars on their squad this term and before the start of the tournament they were written off by many to reach the final or to make much impact. However, their aura and fear factor remained the same and despite making a low-profile preparation, they kept producing result after result and reached the final of this tournament for the first time in their history. In the quarter-finals, Ganggam SC clinched a late equaliser and subsequently overcame Dynamic Football Academy on penalties before producing a brilliant semi-final performance to impeach Golngai FC 2-0. Ganggam SC have the best defensive record of this tournament as they conceded just one goal on their way to the semi-final. Meanwhile, Zomi FC have the best attacking record this term having scored 15 goals to reach the final. Zomi FC are one of the few teams that were considered hot contenders before the start of the tournament and with that tag, they kept winning, set the pace and reached the final and throughout the tournament their 1-1 draw with Chikim Northeast Youngsters Football Academy in the quarter-finals, in which they prevailed through on penalties, remained the only scare and threat they experienced. In all other matches, they were rarely in pressure but produced convincing wins. In the semi-final, they thrashed Zenhang Lamka YC 4-0 to ease into the final.
📃 Team Overview:
As everyone is aware, Zomi FC have a rich squad of superstars. From their very first match, they have deployed almost the same starting line-up making just 1/2 changes occasionally. In goalkeeper, they have a very experienced Kaisangboi Hangzo. In today's final match, they are expected to field the same back-four in Paogoumang Singson, Marvin Khammuanthang, Laldinthar and Jojo-a. Their strong midfield trio includes Henry Thanglalmuan, Lalminlun Neihsial and Khaiminthang while their high-pressing attacking line-up will be spearheaded by hard-work Sawmboihte-a, who would be flanked by either of Khamminthang Tungdim, Jesse Hmar or Kimkima. Kimkima and Jesse Hmar picked up minor ankle injury in the semi-final but still they are expected to play the final.
For Ganggam Soccer Club, they have highly experienced players such as Cleaven Hmara, Minlian Vaiphei, L. Jeson Vaiphei as well as Jefferson Joute, Khummuansang, George Kom and Mangsonmung who could dispel pressure in times of need. In attack, the likes of George Kom, Singdoulien Khongsai, Lunaldo and Naolun Gangte, should perform at their best while semi-final heroes Khummuansang, Minlian Vaiphei and Cleaven Hmara should all match the level they achieved in the semi-final if they are to win their first Zomi Nam Ni Trophy. Their near-perfect semi-final performance that saw them clinched a 2-0 win against star-studded Golngai FC have earned great praise and taking inspiration from that win, they will be fighting with all might to write a new chapter in today's final. Having all those tasks ahead, coach Kamlalzom Gangte will be assessing all possible options to guide his team to glory.
