The founder of the RVD Fitness Centre & Consultancy Mr. R. Raghavendran yesterday completed a Half Marathon at the D2D event at the IIT campus in Chennai with a timing of 2:15:34 hrs!!

This is in sync with our motto that one should lead by example rather than merely preach and advocate fitness !!

Further plans are on for establishing a running club for which the membership will be free of cost for the members of the RVD Fitness Centre and Consultancy .

Fruit juices - Healthy or not?



Most people around the world have this belief that fruit juices are super good. And they go way too much while ordering for fruit juices. Concentrating all the juice from several pieces of fruit into a small glass, and in the process getting rid of all the valuable fiber in it and gulping it down in a minute or two is an excellent way of spiking your blood sugar beyond belief. This in turn leads to the chain reaction of craving for more carb based foods later. Technically a big glass of fruit juice with no fiber in it can increase blood sugar levels, increase craving for carbs. In short it can actually abuses your insulin and other hormones and causes weight gain.

Well if you think that’s the only problem, then here is another more complicated part of it. Fruit juices are extremely concentrated sources of fructose ( a type of sugar that can be utilized only for your liver function and nothing else) . If you eat a piece of fruit, it is just going to feed your liver, whereas a glass of juice fills up your liver and spills over to replenish your fat reserves unlike the other forms of sugars which can be utilized to replenish your muscles.

Also food with excess fructose can significantly raise blood triglycerides and LDL levels which increases heart risk.

Note – these are not problems caused by eating a piece or two of fruits daily. But problems caused by people who have the habit of drinking fruit juices thinking of it as elixir of healthy life.

Okay Treadmill Peeps - HERE IT IS. A great 50-60 minute workout to KICK OFF JAN 1, 2014! Bonus points if you get it done WiTH your hangover in tow!

Like and Comment if you complete it before NOON on January 3, 2014!

Warmup, 2 min. walking brisk pace Flat . 2 min walking brisk pace @ 3% incline.

Now:

Set Treadmill at 1% Incline and set speed at your "comfortable" jogging pace.

Run 2 minutes at those settings.
Add 0.1 MPH for next 2 minutes
Add 0.1 MPH for next 2 minutes
Add 0.1 MPH for next 2 minutes
Add 0.1 MPH for next 2 minutes
(total running completed = 10 minutes)

Now, hop off treadmill and complete:

16 Jump Lunges
16 Pushups
16 Full Depth Squats
16 Tricep Dips
16 Hamstring Bridges on back
1 minute Plank (any variation)
1 minute Reverse Curls

BACK on Treadmill. Repeat EVERYTHING 2 more times!

Knowing about our metabolism involves understanding what is happening inside our bodies when we eat and when we don’t.

Eating smaller but more frequent meals is beneficial not only to athletes but also health-conscious, active persons in several ways. Frequent eating helps to maintain a steady level of blood glucose levels, providing energy throughout the day. It enhances nutrient utility and prevents the body from getting fat. The right way to eat will be three meals of regular food items (smaller servings, of course) and two or three health-food snacks every day. However, those who consume high-calorie foods to gain muscle or body weight can spread their calories equally over five or six meals. For example, a person consuming 2,000 calories a day can eat five small meals providing 400 calories each rather than eat three enormous meals.

When calories (from quality foods) are ingested, a thermic effect takes place inside the body – our metabolism rises to process the calories consumed.

It is as simple as this – the more often we eat, the more the ‘thermic’ effect. This maintains the metabolic rate. Add to it systematic exercises and you have a win-win combination to getting good health and a great body.

However, calorific and nutrient intake has to be tailored based on each individual’s body and needs.
