US actor Paul Walker, who starred in the Fast & Furious series of action films, has been killed in a car crash in California. Walker, 40, was a passenger in a Porsche sports car driven by a friend - who also died - when it crashed north of Los Angeles.

Metro clampdown on Durban drag races: 07 August 2013 at 14:06 Metro police say they are clamping down on illegal drag races that have been plaguing areas in and around Durban recently. Authorities have been speaking to Newswatch amid complaints from Durban North residents over alleged races that have taken place on North Coast Road. Metro police say the dangerous pastime has increasingly spread to areas in and around the city in recent years. Metro Police's Sibonelo Mchunu has warned that the law will be harsh on illegal racers who are putting innocent lives in danger. "It is quite a nuisance for us as Metro police. We are focusing on the entire Durban area and we urge the public to call the police if they suspect or they see any congregation which is likely to be drag racing," he said. A racer in one of Durban's legal circuits says the advancement of social media has made it easier for illegal racers to plan their "events". Kas Moodley says police should focus on controlling spectators to reduce the popularity of the dangerous pastime. "They basically look for a venue where spectators could watch the race, because remember if you remove the spectators from an illegal street race there wouldn't be an illegal street race," he said.
