ement, facilities, access to qualified guidance and coaching. The impact of having a structured support system in place has been proven in recent times through many other sports that have implemented specific athletic programs, badminton, shooting, boxing, the list goes on. From world champions to Olympic results the rewards for India have been numerous and the encouragement to the youth of the country is priceless. Even traditionally followed sports have benefited from modernising their systems, India was once regarded as a cricket loving nation, today they are the number one team in the world and India is the model that world cricket follows. Determined to see Indian water sports athletes on the global stage Arun Vasu has personally set up water sports centres, invested in various young entrepreneurs to set up water sports academies across south India covering a range of sports from surfing, wind surfing, kite surfing to SUP, kayaking, sailing. During this period over 10 000 people have been trained to surf through structured lessons, the establishment of an annual national surfing championship and festival to celebrate surfing and beach life. Athletes from the championships across various disciplines have been selected and sponsored making it possible for them to receive specialised training and compete on the international stage. Testament to his talent and passion, alongside his unwavering commitment to lead by example, having started 42 years ago, you can still catch him going toe to toe with many a world class athlete on the water today.
