Dear UDH Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of India's first youth cafe, “Urban Desi House”. Over the years, this space has been a vibrant hub of creativity, collaboration, and community building, inspiring several community chargers, NGOs, cafe owners, and coworking operators and even the government agencies. We have shared countless memories, ideas, and dreams within these walls and outdoors!

However, due to moving of our office to Puducherry, we have made the difficult decision to close our doors. We want to express our deepest gratitude to each and every one of you who has been a part of this journey. Your passion, enthusiasm, and support have been the driving force behind everything we have achieved.

While this may be the end of one chapter, we believe it is also the beginning of new opportunities and adventures. We hope that the spirit of the youth cafe will live on in each of you, inspiring you to continue creating, connecting, and making a difference in the world.

Thank you for being a part of our community. We will cherish the memories we have shared and look forward to crossing paths with you again in the future.

So far, we have had more than 30 sessions in Chennai on different topics relating to gender, youth rights, acting classes, creative resumes 101, photography micro-workshops, music jams, intense conversations and what not! Through this meetup, we have enabled safe spaces for community and individuals for talking about the rather untouched nuances of our collective voices as youth.

Most writers have experienced Writer’s block, at one point or another in their careers: staring at an empty document on their computers or a blank page in their notebooks, and nothing happening. Writer’s block, or creative block, is possibly as old as the art of writing itself. And let’s get it clear that it doesn’t just happen to writers but it happens to Creatives from all walks of life. Our World is grappling with a major economic, social and cultural crisis amidst current COVID pandemic; while already tackling with existential issues such as climate change and the fourth industrial revolution. Things don't look great for more than 1.2 billion young people across the globe! Adding to that, we as youth also witness a world trapped with a vicious cycle of suspicion, mistrust and exclusion among communities on the lines of religion, race, color, gender, nationality, politics, and existing socio-economic and cultural status among others.
