OBESITY: THE MULTI-ARMED ENEMY
India will soon become one of the leading countries in child obesity. The news is alarming not just because we are the leading ones but also because it affects children in multiple ways. Children are the asset, and future of any country.
A lot has to owe to our lifestyle and food habits which we have adopted, and which the children have also imbibed through us. A techno-centered lifestyle intensified by unhealthy eating, lack of exercise and physical inactivity always make sure that the body stores more calories than what it uses. Not just a child ends up storing calories but invites the risk of diabetes, sleep apnea, asthma, high blood pressure, heart disease, joint problems and what not. It doubly affects the body physiologically and mentally. Physiological and mental aspects of obesity could be tackled well only if we adopt a holistic approach towards addressing it.
These holistic approaches cover almost all the areas of lifestyle, such as food habits, physical activeness, mental health etc. These include inculcating healthy food habits among children, encouraging physical fitness, indulging them and indulging with them in fun physical activities, and limiting their screen time. It might look like a herculean task, but it is a guaranteed road to a healthy body.
