Regulate first, parent second 🌿
Somewhere along the way, “good parenting” got reduced to a set of techniques — the right phrase instead of “no,” the perfect consequence, a script for every meltdown.
Then your child melts down in the cereal aisle, or slams a door — and every script evaporates, because you’re flooded too.
Here’s the part nobody warns you about: you can’t regulate a dysregulated child from a dysregulated body. Conscious parenting isn’t about being calm all the time — that standard just asks parents to override their own nervous system, which is exactly the pattern we’re trying to interrupt. What it actually asks is smaller: notice what’s happening in you before you respond to what’s happening in them.
Kids read tone and tension long before they process words. Before they can manage big feelings, they need to borrow a regulated nervous system to calm alongside — and that has to be yours, even on the hard days.
It’s not about never rupturing the connection. It’s about being willing to repair it. 💛
