Chandigarh & tricity gym association staged a protest today against closure of their gyms in front of the office of UT advisor, Mr. Dharam pal. UT admin on 6th of Jan issued notification to close all gyms, stadium and swimming pools. Gym association is protesting because this time all other services like spa’s, massage parlours, restaurants, bars, ahata’s, multiplexes, cinema halls, malls and all other market are allowed to open with 50% capacity but only gyms are closed. They are demanding to open gyms also with 50% capacity and other covid protocols. Mr. Pankaj kasrija, owners of a prominent chain of gyms said “there is not scientific reason or logic to open rest everything and to shut down gyms. There are approx 1000 small/big gyms in city affecting 20,000 employees and their families. Since covid came around 30% of gyms are closed permanently and more will close during this lockdown. Fixed expenses like rent, electricity/water bills and salaries will hurt them most. Gym association gave a representation to UT advisor to look into their demands and allow opening of gyms as everything else is.
