ALCOHOL & WEIGHT LOSS:
We know that as long as alcohol is consumed in moderation, one can enjoy it without much harm. It tends to serve as a relaxant. However, if you've been trying to shed those extra kilos, alcohol ain't an ally. Consumption of alcohol gets the body to cease burning fat & deal with processing the acetate instead. Cortisol (commonly know as the stress hormone) released by the adrenal gland, happens to be one of the most underrated reasons for gaining fat/ not being able to lose the same. Reasons are as follows-
1) Cortisol presence has an inverse effect on the presence of DHEA, a hormone which required to make other hormones, namely- testosterone, thyroid & growth hormone. The absence of these set you up for massive weight gain.
2) Cortisol also sets up the body to release sugar by breaking down muscle tissues, which if not followed up by exercise, gets stored as fat (a process called gluconeogenesis).
3) Cortisol causes Insulin resistance which again promote fat storage.

It is worth mentioning here that cortisol is not only spiked up by emotional stress but also physical stress (caused by injuries, infections, exposure to toxicity & lack of sleep).

Alot of weight loss diet programs today are merely based on a calorie counting model, not giving enough emphasis to the composition. Proteins happen to be the most vital part of the diet & should ideally comprise 30% of your calorie intake since it has a role in triggering fat burning hormones.Additionally, proteins helps prevent muscle loss which in turn helps in burning additional calories.

One of the most challenging obstacles for fat loss would be to be able to break the plateau (a situation where further fat loss is stalled even when you're seemingly doing everything right). Some of the most common reasons would be-
1) Lack of proper sleep/ Irregular sleep cycles
2) Over Training

Some fat loss myths busted by Dr. Berg. You cannot loose more than 2 pounds of fat per week(therefore 8 pounds a month). Anything more than that would mean loss of muscle or simply water weight(comprises 60% of your body weight) which is not desirable. Also, note the emphasis of cutting out on sugar along with maintaining an appropriate calorie intake. (An approximate of 1200 calories for women & 1500 for men is what is preferred for fat loss).
