Berhampur("TheSilkCity"):
Twenty five young weightlifters were selected for the State team during the State-level junior and sub-junior weightlifting championships which concluded in the city on Sunday night. These budding weightlifters would represent the State in various national level competitions. The Orissa Weightlifting Association (OWLA) organised the sub-junior and forty-sixth junior weightlifting championships at N.A.C. Kalyanimandap in TITILAGARH. More than 220 weightlifters, including boys and girls, from 15 districts had taken part in the tournament. In the sub-junior & Junior Ganjam Team was the winner.
The competitions proved that weightlifting was picking up among youngsters of Ganjam, Puri, Khurda, Cuttack and Titilagarh in a big way.
The veteran weightlifters of the city were too enthusiastic about the tournament as they hoped that such tournaments would increase participation of youngsters in this power sport in Veer Hanuman Club From Berhampur, Ganjam district, which is traditionally known as the cradle of weightlifting in Orissa...
