Three of our members will conduct "The Pop Quiz: A General Quiz on Popular Things" on July 6th, 2024, from 12 noon, as part of F.A.Q., organised by the Medical College Kolkata Quiz Club.

Venue: G.L.T., Administrative Building, Medical College Kolkata.

With the BQL Season 3 completing its first half of the league stage, here is a quick rundown of the season so far.

1. Wonderers above the sea of questions: Aptly described as "The Team to beat", led by Shamsuddin Haider, has been winning all the games on the trot. With players like Diptojyoti Shutu Purkayastha, Rajdip Chowdhury and Sourav Mukherjee, they remain the only undefeated team this season. With two more matches to go, they have one hand on the race to the finals and stay firm favourites to win the title this season.

2. Kotai ba achhe: With the team name providing a tribute to one of the QMs (iykyk), Kotai Ba Achhe looks like the most balanced team of all sorts, checking all the boxes. Led by Santonab Chakraborty, this team boasts of quizzers like Joy Banerjee and Sumantra Sarathi Datta. After a perfect start, Kotai ba achhe stumbled a bit in their last game but remains one of the forerunners to make it to the next stage.

3. Hustlers: As the name suggests, the Hustlers have hustled their way up to the top after a narrow defeat in the second round against Wonderers above the sea of questions. Comprising of players like Saswata Chakraborty, Aditya Narayan Sen and Saikat Poddar, while being led by সঞ্জয় চক্রবর্তী (whom we affectionately call Joshi da), this team looks to set the league on fire in the next two matches.

4. Jaantam, forgetting: The team answering the most questions ends up fourth in the league standings. With captain Dhruv Mookerji leading from the front, this team looks to change its fortune and continue winning with Soumya Majumdar, Mitun Biswas and Debanjan Datta.

5. Mimirer Ghoraguli: With a very hot and cold season, Mimirer Ghoraguli looks to jump back to the top of the standings after their narrow defeat to the table-toppers. Captain Saswata Acharya will surely try to turn the tide with Debanjan Mahapatra, Ashin Das and Thirtharaj Sarkar in the next few games to qualify for the next round.

6. Underdogs: By their standards, it has been a pretty disappointing season so far. However, the stakes are always high when you have quizzers like Bishanka Dassarma and Shuvodeep Karan, along with Anushko Mondal on your team and an "elite" captain like Arnab Pal. With two games yet to be played, they look to complicate many equations and turn the tide in their favour.

After surviving many difficulties, Vencedores Quiz Fest did happen on 3rd September at a dream venue - GLT, thanks to our boys at Medical College.

Our goal was to make the quizzes accessible to everyone, and we somewhat succeeded. In the U25 quiz, 17 out of 24 was the cutoff, with most teams scoring ten or more points.
Our guest QMs for the Bollywood quiz did a fantastic job, striking a perfect balance between general and challenging questions.
In the open quiz preliminary, 22 out of 29 was the cutoff, with 15+ teams scoring over 14.5 points and 23+ teams scoring more than 10. However, our quiz set received both criticism and praise, which we believe will help us improve next time.

Now, without further ado, here are the full fest results.

P.S. We promised ourselves that we wouldn't delay the prize money, as we've encountered delays before. That's why we sent out the prize money quickly, to one member from each team. (Including finalists of Open & U25 Quiz)
