Athletes drinking low fat milk are losing more than fat.

They are losing recovery, satiety, and muscle adaptation.

The wisdom athletes inherited.

Low fat dairy was sold as the clean choice. The recommendation came from observational data – not training studies.

Forty years of RCT evidence shows full fat dairy supports strength, hypertrophy, and recovery as well as or better than low fat.

What gets stripped from your recovery.

➜ Vitamin D – critical for testosterone and muscle protein synthesis
➜ Vitamin K2 – directs calcium to bone, not soft tissue
➜ CLA – preserves lean mass in a deficit
➜ Plus added sugar or starch to replace lost flavour

Full fat dairy is one of the best post-training foods.

➜ Whey for fast amino acid delivery
➜ Casein for overnight muscle protein synthesis
➜ Fat for sustained satiety
➜ Electrolytes for rehydration

One food. Four recovery jobs.

Insulin and body composition.

Full fat slows gastric emptying – gentler glucose response. Flavoured low fat yogurt produces a sharper spike.

For athletes in cut, recomp, or hypertrophy – this matters every meal.

CLA – the fat that helps you lose fat.

Reduces visceral fat. Preserves lean mass in a deficit. Improves insulin sensitivity. Absent in low fat dairy. Buffalo milk and full fat A2 cow milk are India’s highest sources.

The Indian athlete advantage.

➜ Buffalo milk – higher fat, protein, CLA
➜ A2 cow milk – easier digestion
➜ Grass-fed ghee – K2 and CLA rich
➜ Full fat curd – casein plus probiotic
➜ Full fat paneer – slow-release protein

Western athletes import what we already grow.

The practical recommendation.

Match dairy to the training phase. Post-strength = full fat. Before bed = curd or paneer. Pre-endurance = lighter.

Always assess your lipid panel before making dairy decisions based on cardiovascular risk.

Train hard. Eat real.

Still stuck at the same weight after months of training?
Stop blaming your calories. Start looking at your gut.

You’re doing everything right.
Training consistently. Eating in a deficit. Protein is up. But the scale won’t move and body fat won’t shift.
This is not a willpower problem. It is a metabolic problem, and the gut is at the centre of it.

Mechanism 1: Leaky gut, systemic inflammation.
When the intestinal barrier breaks down, bacterial fragments (LPS) leak into the bloodstream. Your immune system responds, and keeps responding.
That chronic inflammation impairs insulin signalling. Impaired insulin signalling means your body stores fat instead of burning it.

Mechanism 2: Your bacteria decide how you process food.
Some bacteria extract more calories from the same meal. Others produce short-chain fatty acids that improve insulin sensitivity.
A dysbiotic gut tips this balance. You store more, burn less. Body composition is a microbiome problem as much as a calorie problem.

Mechanism 3: Gut inflammation keeps cortisol elevated.
Chronic gut inflammation activates the HPA axis. Elevated cortisol drives visceral fat, the deepest fat, the hardest to shift.
You can run all the cardio you want. Elevated cortisol will put it back.

The signs your gut is the problem.
→ Bloating after meals
→ Fat loss plateau despite training
→ Energy crashes after eating
→ Poor sleep quality
→ Sugar and refined carb cravings

The fix.
→ Fermented foods daily – curd, kanji, fermented batter
→ Soluble fibre – oats, psyllium, sabja seeds
→ Remove irritants – refined flour, excess sugar, seed oils
→ Avoid unnecessary NSAIDs
→ Polyphenols – turmeric, green tea, berries
Fat loss without gut restoration is temporary.

ORS is not for athletes.
The most-used hydration sachet in India is medically wrong for your training.

The wrong logic.
ORS hydrates. Athletes need hydration. So ORS works.
Wrong. ORS was built for a sick gut, not a working muscle.

What ORS actually is.
The WHO formula was designed to save lives in cholera and diarrhoea. High sodium. Low glucose. Specific osmolality for a sick gut.
One of the great medical inventions of the 20th century. And the wrong tool for sport.

Why it fails during exercise.
⚠️ Too much sodium for normal sweat
⚠️ Too little carbohydrate for muscle fuel
⚠️ Osmolality built for a sick gut, not an active one
⚠️ Sits in the stomach – bloating, cramps, GI upset
⚠️ Can worsen performance, not support it

What athletes actually need.
➜ Under 60 minutes – plain water
➜ 60+ min, heat, intense – 30 to 60g carb/L + 300 to 700mg sodium/L
➜ Post-training – salted lassi, chaas, balanced meal

The Indian context.
Every medicine cabinet has ORS. Parents push it on sweaty children after cricket practice. Coaches recommend it at school level. Some clinics prescribe it post-training out of habit.
None of this is rooted in sports nutrition science.

When ORS is appropriate.
✅ Severe heat illness with salt loss
✅ Vomiting or diarrhoea
✅ Post-illness recovery before training
✅ Extreme heat endurance events under medical guidance
Outside these, skip the sachet.

Save this for the gym bag. Send it to your coach.

This is not a weight loss story.
Between 2019 and 2022, grief brought stress. Stress brought weight. Slowly, 30 kg arrived and would not leave.
By the time he walked in, the scale read 111.2 kg.
But that was never really the problem.

What the assessment found
◆ Obesity
◆ Fatty Liver
◆ High Blood Pressure
◆ Subclinical Hypothyroidism
◆ Suspected Insulin Resistance
◆ Poor Body Composition
◆ Systemic Inflammation Risk
Seven conditions. One consultation.

The effort was never the problem
He was already vegetarian. Hydrated. Training five times a week. Sleeping well.
The metabolic environment was the missing piece.

Six systems. Addressed together
Metabolic medicine. Nutrition. Gut health. Nutraceuticals. Training. Sleep optimisation.
Not a diet. A system built around his biology.

12 weeks later
◆ Weight: 111.2 kg to 93.8 kg — down 17.4 kg
◆ Visceral fat: 23 to 11 — down 12 points
◆ Metabolic age: 54 to 42 — down 12 years
◆ Body score: 77 out of 100
He wore his old clothes again.

Could the next story be yours?
Every transformation starts with one assessment.
If you are doing everything right and still not seeing results, the answer is not more effort.
It is a better assessment.

Your blood report is normal.
Your performance is not.
There is a reason for that.

PROBLEM

• Reference ranges in blood reports are statistical averages for the general population
• They are designed for disease prevention, not performance
• A normal report tells you that you are not sick
• It does not tell you that you are performing at your best

A regular doctor reads your report from a disease prevention lens.
A Sports Medicine Doctor reads it from a performance lens.

That is the fundamental difference.

SCIENCE

• 73% of athletes have suboptimal Vitamin D levels despite completely normal reports
• 0 to 20 ng/mL = Deficiency
• 20 to 40 ng/mL = Insufficiency
• Above 40 ng/mL = Normal

But for athletes, the optimal range is often 50 to 100 ng/mL.

Vitamin D above 50 ng/mL may:

• Improve skeletal muscle function
• Reduce recovery time
• Improve force and power production

The same principle applies to:

• Iron
• Magnesium
• Vitamin B12
• Zinc
• Folate

Toxicity for Vitamin D generally begins above 125 ng/mL, nearly twice the upper limit of “normal.”

SOLUTION

• Maintain nutrient levels at the higher end of the reference range, not just within it
• Get your reports interpreted by a Sports Medicine Doctor, not just a general physician
• Do not dismiss symptoms because your report looks normal

ACTION

If you have symptoms and a “normal” blood report, there is still a problem.

The next step is consultation with a Sports Medicine Doctor who reads your report from a performance lens.

40% of ACL tears never need surgery.
Most athletes hear “ACL tear” and assume the operation table is next. The science says otherwise.

Not all ACL tears are the same.
➜ Partial tear – fibres damaged, continuity intact
➜ Complete tear – full rupture, joint may feel unstable
Grade determines everything that follows.

The protocol has changed.
Surgery used to be the default. It no longer is. Conservative rehab produces comparable outcomes in the right patient.

You may not need surgery if.
✅ Partial tear with no rotational instability
✅ No associated meniscus or ligament damage
✅ Your sport does not involve cutting, pivoting, or jumping

Surgery is the right call when.
⚠️ Complete tear with confirmed rotational instability
⚠️ ACL combined with meniscus or collateral damage
⚠️ Returning to a pivoting sport at high demand

Conservative management – three phases.
Phase 1 – swelling control and range of motion
Phase 2 – quad and hamstring neuromuscular rehab
Phase 3 – return-to-sport testing before clearance
Rehab quality decides the outcome.

The evidence.
The KANON trial showed no significant outcome difference between conservative and surgical management at 5 years. 40% managed conservatively never required surgery.
The data was always there.

Before you say yes to surgery, ask.
➜ Is this a partial or complete tear?
➜ Is my joint stable during functional movement testing?
➜ Have I completed a structured rehab programme first?
One conversation can change the call.

29 km of open water. 11 hours 35 minutes.
Meet Dhyan Kashyap NM. 20 years old. Khelo India athlete. The first Asian para swimmer with one leg to cross the Palk Strait.

The problem before the crossing.
Months before the swim, Dhyan’s left shoulder was breaking down.
➜ Sharp pain at VAS 8/10 with every freestyle stroke
➜ Imaging confirmed SLAP tear with supraspinatus tendinopathy
➜ Scapular muscle imbalance compounding every pull
The one tool he needed most was the one failing him.

The full assessment.
The shoulder was a symptom, not the story.
⚠️ Overuse injury from high training volume, low recovery
⚠️ Tight external rotators locking the shoulder
⚠️ Weak scapular stabilisers
⚠️ Nutritional gaps affecting recovery and inflammation
He was under-recovered at every level.

The Ziathlon SportsFit Protocol.
➜ Manual therapy and percussion release
➜ Scapular stabiliser strengthening
➜ Performance nutrition calibrated to training load
➜ Anti-inflammatory nutrition strategy
➜ Hydration protocol for open water distance
No surgery. No shortcuts. Just sequence.

The outcome.
April 2025. Palk Strait. Sri Lanka to Dhanushkodi. 29 km. 11 hours 35 minutes. Non-stop.
Not despite everything he was managing. Because of how well he prepared.

What this means for you.
Pain before a big race is not a full stop. It is a signal.
The right assessment changes everything. Injury and performance are not opposites. Recovery is a structured intervention, not rest. Every elite goal needs a medical team behind it.
Your goal doesn’t have to wait for your body to catch up.

The biggest HYROX mistake? Choosing the wrong shoes.
HYROX is not running. HYROX is not CrossFit. Your shoes have to survive both.

Why HYROX shoes are confusing.
One race demands running, sled push, sled pull, burpees, lunges, rowing, wall balls.
Most shoes are built for one job. HYROX needs both.

Mistake #1: Pure running shoes.
➜ Unstable heel
➜ Excessive compression
➜ Foot collapse under sled load
Stress shifts to knees, Achilles, plantar fascia, and lower back.

Mistake #2: Pure gym shoes.
➜ Stiff and unresponsive
➜ Increased calf fatigue
➜ Reduced running economy
➜ Higher impact stress
HYROX has 8 km of running. Ignoring that is a strategic error.

What makes a good HYROX shoe.
✅ Moderate cushioning – run-ready, not soft
✅ Stable heel – sled, lunge, wall ball
✅ Forefoot flex – run transitions and burpees
✅ Turf grip – wet and dry
✅ Lightweight – delays fatigue

Body weight matters.
A 58kg athlete and a 98kg athlete should not use the same shoe. Match to body, gait, and injury history. Not influencer marketing.

Common injuries from poor shoe choice.
⚠️ Shin splints
⚠️ Achilles pain
⚠️ Knee pain
⚠️ Plantar fasciitis
Shoes do not cause every injury – they amplify bad biomechanics.

The best HYROX shoe.
There isn’t one. There is only the right one for you. Test under run, push, lunge, and fatigue – not in a store under fluorescent lights.

14/05/2026

You train hard. You eat clean. You are still underperforming.
The variable nobody checks is hydration.

Performance drops before thirst kicks in.
➜ 1% dehydrated – concentration and reaction time fall
➜ 2% dehydrated – strength and endurance decline
➜ 3% dehydrated – training becomes counterproductive
Thirst is a late warning, not an early one.

It is not just water. It is blood.
Dehydration thickens your blood. Oxygen delivery slows. Lactic acid builds earlier. Recovery lengthens.

Water alone will not fix it.
Sweat takes sodium, potassium, magnesium with it. Without electrolytes, you are refilling with the wrong fuel.

Your urine is the report.
Pale straw – optimal. Dark yellow – act now. Amber – stop training.

The Indian athlete problem.
Up to 2 litres of sweat per hour in Indian heat. Western sports drinks are built for European athletes in cool conditions.

The ACSM protocol.
➜ Daily – weight (kg) x 35ml
➜ Pre – 500ml two hours before, 250ml twenty minutes before
➜ During – 150 to 200ml every 15 to 20 minutes
➜ Post – replace 1.5x fluid lost

What your sweat actually contains.
Sodium. Potassium. Chloride. Magnesium. Plain water replaces only the water.

Coming next.
Which sports drink. What concentration. How to add energy.
