Cricket tournament Organised by Bandipora
Police Under Civic Action Programme
Inaugurated in Gurez
Bandipora, August 26, 2026:
Bandipora Police, under the Civic Action
Programme (CAP) of Jammu & Kashmir Police, organised a Knockout Cricket Tournament at Habba Khatoon Stadium, Markoot Gurez, which was formdlly inaugurated today by SDPO Gurez and SHO Gurez.
A total of 16 teams are participating in the
tournament, providing local youth with a
platform to showcase their cricketing talent and engage in healthy and constructive sportingactivities.The initiative aims to promote sportsmanship, youth engagement, discipline and teamwork while further strengthening police-public relations in the Gurez area.Speaking on the occasion, the officers highlighted the important role of sports in channelising the energy of youth towards positive pursuits and fostering a sense of camaraderie and healthy
competition.
Bandipora Police remains committed to
organising such community-oriented activities under the Civic Action Programme.

Today on 23-08-2026 (Sunday) Grand Finale of Shams Cricket Tournament was played between BG Sonarwani and YM Wanpora. Batting first BG Sonarwani made huge total of 212/6 from allotted 20 overs. Sheikh Junaid was top scorer with 65 of 33 ( 5 Fours and 6 sixes.) and Blistering Knock by Naveed wani 52 of just 16 balls with 4 fours and 6 sixes . In reply YM Wanpora were bundled out on 150. BG Sonarwani won the match by 62 runs. Naveed wani was awarded player of the match award for his all-round performance with both bat and ball ( 2.4 overs conceeded 20 runs and took 3 crucial wickets for BG Sonarwani. Sri Lanka Cricket have appointed former World Cup winner Hashan Tillakaratne as batting coach of the Senior Men's Program until December 2027.

Sarfaraz Khan has been named as Sai
Sudharsan's replacement for the two-match
Test series in Sri Lanka. He is set to link up with
the squad before the team travels to Galle for the
first Test which starts on August 15.
Sarfaraz has played six Tests for India, with
his most recent appearance coming in the 2024
home series against New Zealand. In 1 1 innings,
he has one century and three fifties to his name.
The call-up comes on the back of another solid
Ranji Trophy season in 2025-26 where he scored
429 runs from nine innings at an average of
53.62.
