Imagine, this is a fair delivery in our part of the world. I give it to the umpires that they are only human and are vulnerable to make mistakes, but when one can clearly and easily judge that ball is dangerously directed at the chest - not merely above the waist - of the batsman, it has to be called a no-ball and the bowler must be warned against it.

The quality of cricket in Kashmir, including its competitive nature is perhaps at its zenith currently, but the umpiring, even at the major cricketing leagues across kashmir, demands a lot of improvement!

Note: Umpire is the final authority on the field, but you are in your right to challenge their decisions if you are hard-done by them!

So much for the unprecedented craze of cricket in Kashmir, ignorance still reins high here, in deciding the fate of a lot of cricket matches. Most, if not all, match officials across even major cricket leagues - let alone mini-tournaments - lack the basic knowledge of rules and regulations of the game and the ability to judge if the spirit of game is maintained. The spontaneous decisions they make, are either influenced by the umpires' memory of a similar thing happening in some other tournament, without checking its validity, the pressure of a prejudiced crowd or by the players from either of the two teams who want the decision in their favour.

A friend called me in the morning and asked if a fielder can remove his/her cap before catching the ball?! A similar thing happened in our (Sultan Warriors) final match against Gani Autowheels at Manzseer. The decision went in our favour, when it should not have, because the umpires and the opposite team didn't know that it was a fair catch. A fielder can remove all his things, if time be, and still claim a catch, unless of course he/she fails to catch it.

What happened today at Mattan, during Semi-final match of APL, is another example of what bad umpiring can do to the game. A fielder staying beyond the boundary when the ball is in play, is deemed to be called "Grounded beyond the boundary" player. The ball can not be called a no-ball. Onfield umpires can however, bar this fielder from entering the playing field for the entire innings or however long they please!

The yesterday crowd at shalabugh Premier League was super-exciting. That is the kind of atmosphere that puts players' temperament to the test and brings out their real character. One thing, the crowds should however refrain from, is invading the pitch, where it gets ugly. Otherwise, crowds make cricket exciting and actually worthwhile!

Pats on the backs of Royal Goodwill players for playing their best game and winning the match comfortably. Team Sultan Warriors made momentous comebacks, but never really held the game in possession!

A lot of times have I seen batters/players, from Kashmir, refusing to leave, after a catch has been completed, because the catching fielder takes his cap off, before settling under the catch. That Jason holder did that before taking Mitch Marsh's catch, a moment ago (WIvsAus t20i), proves that it's completely alright for a fielder to do that in order to take a catch according to his/her comfort, albeit other legal formalities for a valid catch are met.

Note: A keeper too, can take off all his/her gear before collecting the ball. In no case is that a no-ball or a penalty, except if the ball hits the gear removed intentionally. If a fielder or a keeper loses his/her gear unintentionally and the ball hits it, it's not a no-ball or a penalty.
