Definitely the greatest all-rounders ever to play for India. An attacking batsman of both pace and spin bowling, a great medium pace bowler for most of his career, an inspiring captain who took his country to World Cup win against all odds and expectations, a very effective fielder.

Kapil Dev, achieved few things in his career which others could not -
1. 175* against Zimbabwe in 1983 World Cup match, which brought India into the tournament
2. Only player to have taken 400 wickets and scored 5000 runs in Tests. Not even the Great Sobers or Kallis achieved this feat.
3. Kapil was never run out in his test career.
4. Youngest to take 100, 200 and 300 test wickets.
5. 4 successive sixers in test against England to avoid follow-on

Knowing his all round cricket skills and talents, let us look at the other facets.
He is very calm and composed on the field, both as a player as well as a captain.
He never throws tantrums at umpires, hardly seen him sledging opposition.
Very level headed and down to earth with almost muted celebrations after taking wickets or reaching landmarks.
Extremely fit and never missed a match due to fitness issues. Remember he played 131 tests, 225 ODIs and 584 first class matches for almost 20 years. As the premier fast bowler of all sides, he had bowled close to 103000 balls.
More importantly he carried the burden of country's expectations as the ace bowler as well as captain in tests and ODIs too.
