The introduction of the Speedo IQ smart-goggle system marks a serious shift in the aquatic sports technology landscape.
By embedding a removable, screen-free sensor module into its Vanquisher goggles, Speedo is collecting meaningful performance data without adding the distraction of an in-goggle display.
The sensor measures many metrics already familiar from smartwatches and race-pace software, such as cycle times, stroke count, and other performance metrics. But it also introduces additional data points, including head movement and angle tracking, specific breathing timing, and turn-performance efficiency.
For us at MySwimEdge, with our much more granular intra-stroke velocity data and Biomechanical AI technique analysis, this development creates both opportunities and threats.
It will be very exciting to see how the market responds, especially given Speedo’s huge brand and marketing strength.
And it will be equally interesting to see the next moves from the major swim brands — Arena, TYR, Mizuno and others — as well as direct competitors such as FORM and the established swimming-watch manufacturers.
The swimming technology market is clearly entering a new phase.
More data is coming into the pool. The real question is: who will turn that data into actionable insight for swimmers and coaches?

What can we learn about Johannes Liebmann (green arrow) and Zalan Sarkany’s (orange arrow) swimming technique simply by watching the race video and knowing the results?

Quite a lot.

From the above-water angle, we can clearly see differences in stroke rate, hand entry, body resistance (look at the bubbles around the head and shoulders), and kicking.

We can also see that Johannes maintains a more streamlined body position, while Zalan’s body appears to undulate somewhat more during rotation.

From the underwater angle, we can see another interesting difference: biomechanically, their left- and right-arm strokes appear to have different high-elbow setups.

But there are also important limitations.

We don't have the entire race from these two angles. And, more importantly, we don't have the exact stroke-by-stroke comparison.

What was the timing of every stroke?

What were the minimum and maximum velocities?

How much did velocity vary from stroke to stroke?

Where did acceleration and deceleration occur within each stroke?

And how did the left and right arms differ?

This is the information that can take swimming analysis to another level.

Video helps us see what the swimmer is doing.

Stroke-by-stroke biomechanical data helps us quantify how efficiently the swimmer is doing it.

That is what MySwimEdge provides coaches and swimmers: with objective, granular stroke-by-stroke data.

Recent astonishing 1,500 m freestyle World Record of 14:26.79 seconds by Johannes Liebmann is astonishing on several levels.
1. The overall improvement over the previous World Record of Bobby Finke were huge 3.88 seconds.
2. The pace for each 100m between 100 and 1,400 meters were astonishingly stable 57.54 - 58.37 seconds.
3. For each 100 meters between 100m and 1,300m marks it took Johannes exactly 62 cycles. (Data from Mako Swim) Unbelievable stability.
Now, the info that we would like to look at for more complete analysis would be (1) metrics related to intra-cycle velocity - velocity fluctuations, comparisaon of the efficiency of left and right arm strokes, etc. (2) the changes in the last 200 meters - were there more of less fluctuations of the speed, any other changes of the velocity pattern.
But it is clear that Johannes had unbelievable technique consistency in general and under fatigue.

Sometimes people ask me whether MySwimEdge is only for the professional swimmers and triathletes. It is not.

Isabell Schwenkert is an age group triathlete. She has come to triathlon from marathon running, so swimming needed improvement. She worked a lot on her swimming, but a few tests last year helped her to shave off quite a few seconds from the swimming pace. Isabell qualified for right in her first . She further improved her swimming this year.

Isabell is a great early adopter for MySwimEdge. She helped us to think through quite a few issues like market positioning, video and velocity curve sync and other.

This is the link to her post on LinkedIn.

AI is a buzzword these days, so let me explain what it actually means at MySwimEdge.
After each test, our algorithm calculates your intra-cycle velocity, along with key graphs and performance metrics. This unique data is then used by our AI analysis to identify patterns in your swimming and provide personalized, data-driven insights and recommendations.

We are excited to be rolling out the next generation of the MySwimEdge App, featuring Biomechanical AI Analysis.

August 5, 2024. The finish of the Olympic Mixed Relay Triathlon.

I love this quick reaction from the swimming coach of one of the athletes on the gold medal-winning German triathlon team.

Of course, victory has many fathers, and I'm certainly not claiming to be one of them. So many contributed far more than we did.
But I'm proud of the role we played in 2024, and it's rewarding to know that it was useful.
Rather than making drastic changes to the athlete's technique, we focused on identifying and correcting the technical inefficiencies that were wasting energy during the swim leg.

To do that, we went beyond traditional swimming averages and analyzed:
- stroke-by-stroke consistency,
- intra-cycle velocity,
- left-right symmetry,
- and other biomechanical indicators.

For us, this was an important validation of our approach—and an even greater learning experience. This also helped shape the next generation of MySwimEdge technology

It's exciting to see MySwimEdge becoming one of the differentiating features of swim and triathlon camps.
Athletes and coaches are looking for more than just lap times, SWOLF and averages - they want objective, actionable insights. The depth and granularity of MySwimEdge data make it possible to identify stroke-by-stroke technique inefficiencies, measure progress, and make training decisions with confidence.
Because improvement starts with understanding.
No data. No insight. No improvement.

🏊‍♂️ Neu 2027: Swim Performance Lab Mallorca

Kein klassisches Schwimmcamp.

Sondern eine Kombination aus Leistungsdiagnostik, Videoanalyse und individuellem Coaching.

🔬 Wir analysieren unter anderem:

✅ CSS (Critical Swim Speed)

✅ 50-m-Test

16 MySwimEdge 50m tests in just 1 hour and 15 minutes.

This is how one coach integrates MySwimEdge into an open water camp—turning every session into a source of real, actionable insights.

Testing is not just about identifying technique issues. It’s about validating them, tracking progress, and building truly personalized, measurable training programs for each swimmer.

This is what makes modern swim camps stand out: data, clarity, and results.
