Only a few weeks to go until the Summer Wicklow Junior Chess Tournament 2026 and registrations are already coming in!
Whether your child is just learning the game or looking to gain valuable tournament experience, this event is the perfect opportunity to develop skills, make new friends, and enjoy a fun afternoon of competitive chess.
🏆 Trophies, certificates & spot prizes to be won ♟️ 6-round rapid Swiss tournament 👦👧 Ages 6–16 ⭐ Suitable for beginners and improvers 📊 Maximum rating: 1500
📅 Saturday, June 20th, 2026 🕐 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM 📍 O'Shea's / The Forge (Upstairs), Wicklow Town
💶 Entry Fee: €15 per player
We've also added some fantastic prizes and chess-themed goodies for participants, including chess boards, caps, pens, and special keepsakes!

Its always great to get positive feedback for giving chess lessons.
This was sent by Joshua's mother to the Principal, (a new recruit) in St. Nicholas's Primary School, Dun Laoghaire.

He absolutely loved it Julie!! He played it for ages on the iPad when he got home and had me on Amazon buying a chess board last night ! He talked non stop all evening about it .

A great turnout of 49 participants for the Easter Wicklow Junior Chess Tournament on Sat. March 28th, 2026. Thanks for all the positive feedback, all seemed to enjoy the experience, a stepping stone for better things to come! Also, leaving the maximum rating limit to 1400 proved successful and gave everyone a fair chance of winning. final standings as follows:-

3rd Isaac Leith 5/6

Best Under 8 Aahil Mohammad 4/6
Best Under 10 Anvita Ramesh Nair 4/6

It was great to be part of the blockbuster movie "Shelter" which is now out in the Cinemas. Apart from being the Chess Advisor, it was nice to see that many parts of it was filmed in Wicklow Town.
Seamus Duffy is credited as the chess advisor for the film Shelter, directed by Ric Roman Waugh and produced by Jason Statham.
