Happy 'MYTH' Monday everyone.
Today's Fitness myth is a common misconception with relation to 'Shakes, Supplements & Diet fads'
All you have to do is log in to Facebook, Instagram, or open a magazine to be bombarded with nutrition fads. It began with 'reduced-fat' or 'fat-free' processed food products. Then more recently, the juice cleanses, restrictive paleo, Herbalife, Shakeology, etc. Now in some cases these diets may work, for short-term use. But if they really DID work, why would they fade out and new trends pop up on a regular basis. It is also worth mentioning that everyone is different & there is no one diet for everyone.
It's very worrying to see so many people getting brainwashed into believing if they start drinking 'skinny tea' that they will have a flat belly like that influencer on Instagram, or if they take protein supplements they will have glutes like Kim Kardashian.
Anything that promises a 'quick fix' you need to avoid as with the following ;
1. Promotes 'magic' foods or combinations of foods
2. Implies that food can change body chemistry
3. Has rigid rules that focus on weight loss
4. Makes claims based on a single study or testimonials only.
5. Excludes or severely restricts food groups or nutrients, such as carbohydrates
CARBOHYDRATES ARE NOT BAD FOR YOU. Long term diets whereby you cut out all carbs ARE. You may be looking for a fast way to lose weight and there's no shortage of 'fad diets' around. These 'diets' may provide short-term results, but they are difficult to sustain and, ultimately, they deprive you of the essential nutrients that only balanced eating can offer.
To summarize the above, Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is about your mindset. It's about wholefoods, mindful eating when your hungry not due to boredom. Its being prepared with your meals. Its about balance and allowing yourself to have that treat Knowing and believing that you have the power to choose what you put in your body. It is NOT about restriction and starvation. Next time an advert pops up on your feed for the next diet craze or supplement trend, please exit and continue scrolling.
