Our school is under the patronage of The Church of Ireland and also welcomes children from different faiths and none. We currently have a number of families from different faiths and we enjoy learning from each other. Our school caters for children with various special educational needs as well as for children whose first language is not English. We have a learning support / resource teacher and a special needs assistant. On a weekly basis our children enjoy drama lessons, tin whistle lessons and Irish dancing lessons with specialist teachers. We also have after-school soccer for middle room and senior room pupils. Throughout the school year pupils participate in many whole school activities including our annual Christmas concert, an Irish dancing and music performance, gardening club, Westport Art's festival activities, Active week, Friendship Week and a variety of other activities. Our senior pupils also enjoy gaelic training, spike ball, cross country running, Greenway cycles, quizzes. Click on whole school activities to see more details of these activities and others. Developing an appreciation by pupils of Ireland's culture, traditions and language is an integral part of the school's educational activities.

Today we found "sit spots" and spent 20 mins having a sensory soak, observing the world around us through all our senses, while drawing and writing notes in our nature journals.
Calm connection.

Whole school tour to Old Head beach today. Despite very strong winds and occasional showers we had a great day. We were sheltered by trees and mesmerised by rockpools. The beach is such a wonderful natural playground. How lucky we are to have all this on our doorstep.
Thanks to Muirti and the Summer SUP team, it was unsafe to paddleboard or kayak so 4th, 5th and 6th classes tried some snorkeling instead.
Mayo Sports Partnership the beach wheelchair was a great asset also, greater awareness about it's availability would benefit more people.
Thank you to all members of staff who worked extra hard today ensuring everyone's safety and happiness. 🥰

Delicious Dishes a mouth watering recipe book made by 5th and 6th class has been published. Great care and pride has gone into the artwork and instructions, the end result is fantastic. Congratulations to the authors. I'm looking forward to trying all the recipes.
I think we'll have to have a bake off to decide the best brownies!

Primary school pupils from Westport have produced a booklet celebrating the town's forgotten industrial heritage, following a fascinating local history project that uncovered a wealth of information about the factories that once formed the backbone of the town's economy.
