Result: Rathgormack 4 Carrick United 5

After the dust has settled on a nine goal thriller last night we get over the disappointment of the loss and focus on a great performance with the unlucky result.
The game started brightly for Rathgormack and after an end to end start to the game we took the lead when Mikey Halpin raced on to a through ball from Paudie whelan and seeing the keeper slightly off his line shot first time to lob him from 35 yards. The game continued to be open but Carrick got their equaliser when a cross over the defence found their man in space and he buried a header to leave the score at half time 1-1.

Second half started badly for us as Carrick were 2-1 up in a couple of minutes when another cross evaded everyone and the Carrick striker volleyed it into the net. We responded well again and found the equaliser when Mikey Halpin on the left hand side crossed to the back post and Dean Kirwan met it with a great header.

The game then seemed to get away from us as Carrick scored two quick goals to make it 4-2, one of them being an OG it seemed like luck had deserted us, but credit to the whole team who battled their way back into the game and got back on top and were rewarded when Tony Power laid the ball off to Paudie Whelan whose shot hit the crossbar and looked to have crossed the line but Conor Power followed up to make sure. Two minutes later some good play In midfield got a through ball to Dean who got their before the keeper to level the game with a tidy finish.

A draw seemed to be on the cards at this stage and as the game entered deep injury time but Carrick got one last chance from a corner and struck for the winner when the ball fell kindly to an unmarked man in the right place at the right time with the last kick.

Cruel way to lose after such a good performance..Onwards and upwards from here lads…well done.

Result: Bohs 2 Rathgormack 2

An exciting midweek game last night ended in a last gasp equaliser to secure a point. It was very even start to the game with half chances at both ends until 25 mins in a long ball by bohs fell perfect for their striker between two defenders and he tucked it away…5 mins later disaster struck when an attempted clearance hit one of our own players hand as and the ref pointed to the spot. Thankfully he drove it wide and kept the score to the minimum.
After half time Rathgormack searched hard for the equaliser and got it on the hour mark when the evergreen Kenny Hassett found space on the left wing and got a cross in for Dean Kirwan to apply the finish and get the ball beyond the keeper. With 15 mins to go a bohs free kick was sent in and found it’s way to their player at the back post, he calmly took a touch and squared it across the 6 yard box for the tap in and give bohs the lead at a crucial stage.
Great team spirit was shown in the last 15 mins to try get a result out of this game, and the reward came in the 94th minute when a brilliant team move ended with Hart (Paudie not Tommy) sending in an inch perfect cross between defenders for Jamie Kirwan to bury a diving header at the back post to secure the point. No more than he and the team deserved after a tireless battling performance. Well done lads.

Result: Rathgormack 2 Kilmacow 1

Our first game of the season ended in a hard fought win last night in sweltering conditions.huge credit to all players and the subs who ensured the result got over the line with a great attitude to see out the game. The first goal was a well worked team move to find Dean Kirwan out on the left wing and his first time cross found Paul Drohan at the far post who lobbed the keeper with a delicious chip. Reminiscent of a famous Kevi Fogarty goal minus the iconic celebration.
We continued to create chances but failed to convert one until early in the second half when the roles were reversed as a quick counter attack saw Paul Drohan play Dean Kirwan in who rounded the keeper with his first touch and buried it from an acute angle.
Kilmacow scored with a great finish from a seemingly impossible angle with 15 mins to go which set up a nervy finish but to their credit the whole team dug in as a unit including a stunning save from Donal Larkin to keep them at bay and secure the opening round win.

Next match is 3rd August away to Bohs

Result: Rathgormack 5 Dungarvan Celtic 2

Our second game of the season produced an exciting contest at Kennedy Park. After a opening game draw we claimed all 3 points despite an early setback.

The game was only 2 minutes old when the dungarvan winger cut inside from the left and unleashed an unstoppable drive to the far post that gave Kieran Guiry no chance in the goal. Rathgormack started getting a foothold in the game then when disaster struck as on the counter attack a cross cm shot ended up looping in the top corner and we were 2-0 down in an even contest. Before half time we had a goal harshly ruled out as the dungarvan keeper was injured during the build up.

We took the positives from that and showed great drive from the minute the second half started. This was rewarded with a lifeline as a brilliant corner whipped in by β€œchips” was nodded in by Ciaran Power to give us a lifeline. That lifted the whole team as we started getting on top all over the field. Minutes later Ciaran had dean on the overlap one their box and he rifled a finish underneath the legs of the goalkeeper from a tight angle.

Now smelling a win we won a free out on the left wing..Up stepped β€œHart” and expecting a good delivery we took the lead when he gave the keeper no chance with a curling rocket to the far top corner. Confidence was oozing a this stage and a minute later we gave ourselves a cushion when a Conor mulligan delivery eluded everyone who was running out bar Ciaran who was running in and found himself in a position to find the far corner with a right footed finish.

To round off the scoring a through ball from John Cullinane was inviting enough οΏΌfor Ciaran Power to beat the oncoming keeper to it as his first touch took him around to keeper to slot it into an empty net and complete the ”perfect” hat trick with his left foot.

Great team performance with a great never say die attitude that will stand us well as the season goes on.

Well done lads.
