DTL

The final Thurles DTL of the 2025-2026 season takes place tomorrow, Saturday the 13th of June. The timing arrangements worked quite well on previous shoots so we will continue with the same arrangement for tomorrow: the first arrivals will go out at 10:30am and a second wave will go about 1:30pm. That’s the plan anyway but it’s hard to predict being on a Saturday. The forecast looks almost tropical compared to what we’ve endured recently, so hopefully they are telling the truth.

The final of the NARGC selection shoots took place in Thurles last Sunday. The shoot was run over 6 stands in very windy weather. We kept most stands close to the sheds to provide some shelter. It wasn’t the hardest shoot we ever set up but nevertheless it sorted the field. The day was won by Michael Cummins after a prolonged shoot off against Bunny Keogh and Anthony Graham all of whom had shot 48 in the qualifier. They picked one of the tougher stands to shoot off, involving a battue and a mini. I notice on the County High Gun Shield that Michael will occupy 7 out of the 9 badges awarded so far with Seán Graham and Shane Carroll on the other 2.
In the open shoot 3 finished on 49 Michael Cummins, Chris Cummins and Annraoi Milner (I wouldn’t have believed it myself only I saw it with my own 2 eyes!). So that went to a shoot off involving a distant mini crosser and a close up standard bird. Michael came out on top again without too much problem and collected €150 when he passed ‘GO’ for the second time.
Many thanks to everyone who took part on the day and to all who worked in the background to make the day a success. I think especially of Gina Cummins, Sinéad Corcoran, PJ Graham, Anthony Graham, Vincent Lalwlor and Noel Connolly. Especial thanks goes to Neville Curley who has put in a number of years at the helm of the committee. Neville retired from the committee on the evening of the shoot. Hopefully that will only be a temporary arrangement. We wish Neville the very best on his break.

Good morning all,
The Irish DTL Grand Prix is to be hosted by Thurles CTC on Sunday next (10th May). If it is of interest, there is a HG prize of €100 as is traditional with the Grand Prix. We may also have a gift to go along with the envelope (if I can make it to the shops between this and Sunday).
We will run with the same scheduling format as last Sunday. The starting time for shooting is 10:30am and if we have 8 squads we will send them all out together. So, if that is of interest to you, please get there in time to start at 10:30am. The second wave will then go out a little after 1pm all going well.
Looking forward to seeing you there if it suits.
A.
