🔥TECHNIQUE TUESDAY🔥
This week we look at Mawashi Geri (Round Kick).
This is probably the most desired technique for students to learn, and arguably the one that is most tried in Kumite. Truth be told, there is nothing quite like the feeling of landing a clean Mawashi Geri to an opponent.

Mawashi Geri isn't just a flashy kick for Kumite, in fact it helps to build an understanding of the role of hip rotation in our technique, as it is almost impossible to perform a good Mawashi Geri without rotating the hips.

!!Remember!!
- The rotation must be controlled to allow you to recover the kick.
- Chamber your knee high, this will make it easier to kick higher.

🔥TECHNIQUE TUESDAY🔥
This week we look at the first of our Leg Techniques, starting with Mae Geri (Front Snap Kick)

It's true that many look down at this kick in favour of its flashier sibling Mawashi Geri (more on this next week). But the truth is, if trained well, the Mae Geri can be even more dangerous in a sparring scenario.

The magic of Mae Geri lies in the simplicity and versatility of the kick itself. Virtually any target can be hit with this kick should the kicker choose to aim for it.

!!REMEMBER!!
-You must chamber the kick before executing it.
- The leg is not swinging up, but rather uncurling and moving forward.
- Make sure to pull back your toes.

🔥TECHNIQUE TUESDAY🔥
This week we examine an usual strike, Nukite (Spear Hand Strike)

Nukite acts like a traditional lunging punch in that it is launched at the target, however the notable difference is that the striking surface is the tips of the fingers of an open hand.

Obviously such an attack takes a long time to practice to be able to utilise without injuring one's own hand. Typically the strike would be aimed at 'softer' areas like the solar plexus or throat.

!!REMEMBER!!
- Nukite is not a strike you should be including in your regular sparring practice as you could seriously injure yourself or others.
- When performing Nukite in Kata it should be performed with the intensity of any other strike.

🔥TECHNIQUE TUESDAY🔥
This week we look at Uraken (Back Fist).

This devastating blow is often used in combination with a spinning movement to unleash immense force on the target.

We see Uraken pop up in many different Kata from beginners right up through to Dan Grade Kata.

Legendary Sensei like Mikio Yahara and Hitoshi Kasuya are experts in utilising Uraken, just search for any video of them online to see what I mean, and you will understand just how versatile Uraken can be.

!!REMEMBER!!
-Uraken is a strike with the knuckles and the back of the hand, this is not a typical striking area for most practicioners so practice and conditioning is required.
- The strike itself can be a snapping or a follow through technique.
